Ned's selfish birthday FAP March 5 in LA (now with added SPENCER CHOW!)

Actually hopefully it'll be less selfish than all that if another birthday person is able to join but the schedule is still being checked. Regardless, some sort of get-together planned for that afternoon into evening, details still being hashed out, so keep yer schedule open if you can! Other non-ILX folks should be able to join too. Post here if you're interested/planning on coming/need further details...(oh yes, and my birthday itself is the 2nd but that's the middle of the week and all).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 February 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

I'd hit it.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Monday, 21 February 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

Yay, the 2nd is my grandma's birthday. Maria and Rufus and I will be in the Adirondacks celebrating her 100th birthday.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 February 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

But, um, have fun and all! I will wish yoo a happy one at the appropriate time.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 February 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

The Adirondacks! A wonderful place. My best to her, where does she live there?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

she lives near my aunt and uncle (who run and own an inn called the wawbeek on tupper lake (near saranac lake)) in a pretty swell old folk's home. she lived in an assisted living apartment for years that was really nice, but her eyes have gotten too bad for her to live without full-time care. She still gets around good though. Still with it and all that. She eats a lot of chocolate. They are all close to Lake Placid.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

this is where we will be on yer birthday, Ned:

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

Moderators, please add "and Spencer's".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

happy b-day ned.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

So Spencer, you are in? I wasn't sure still and hadn't heard back!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

There is like a 2% chance that I'll be out of town, but I'll know within a day or two.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

Count me in!

Guitarthur and the Ecstasy Defecators (Arthur), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

I should add that the reason my name appears in the thread title is that my birthday is the day before!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

Yes! So this is megabirthdayage.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 04:54 (twenty years ago)

The thread makes it sound like Ned is going to have a side order of Spencer with dinner.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 05:21 (twenty years ago)

(please don't read anything else into what I just typed.. please)

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 05:22 (twenty years ago)

You pervert.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 05:23 (twenty years ago)

fun fact: Spencer and my sister have the same b-day

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

Okay so:

Ned/Spencer birthday FAP, Sat. Mar. 5, Cat and Fiddle on Sunset, 7 pm. Be there or be square, etc. Vague shopping at Amoeba beforehand.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

I'll be square and will once again fail to break my mysteriousness, because I'm DJing a BEARD PARTY that night.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

Beards!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

a month in advance, all males who were coming to the party were told to grow BEARDS! Those who are clean-shaven will be mocked in a ritual involving comments about their inability to grow facial hair.

Mine is doing well at this point.

This is a telling sign. You are all becoming Rick Rubin.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 26 February 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

I saw a guy with a beard on BART yesterday and I thought "you know? That looks mighty sweet".

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 26 February 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

i used to get shit for my facial hair in the early la faps but DO YOU SEE i was ahead of my time!

charleston charge (chaki), Saturday, 26 February 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm guessing that would have been the "dark ages" of '98-'00!

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Saturday, 26 February 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

Plus it's really cute, chaki.

I really hate the Cat & the Fiddle.

luna's eeeee, Saturday, 26 February 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

im just playin, gear, sheesh! i understand i that i did not invent beards, yes!

charleston charge (chaki), Saturday, 26 February 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

charleston charge (chaki), Saturday, 26 February 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

Ned, i'd show up to thank you for that Disco Inferno CD you sent me a while back BUT i won't be in L.A. until a week later. so THANKS FOR THE CD AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY

lemin (lemin), Saturday, 26 February 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

WAH on a week later. But how long will you be around then?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 26 February 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

c'mon chaki I never said that, I started a thread talking about how I hadn't met any ILXors and if I should, which was a bit of fun. I've made efforts to meet people in the past and it looks like I'll be having an ILXor crash on my couch in a couple of months.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Saturday, 26 February 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

Luna, why the Cat & Fiddle hate?? What's not to like?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 27 February 2005 01:45 (twenty years ago)

They just irritate me with all their 'you can't sit here if you don't order dinner' rules.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 27 February 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

The last time I went, they stuck us in the back room, and it smelled like a sewer with the occasional waft of urinal cake. Mmm.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 27 February 2005 01:47 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I don't think I've ever sat inside - maybe once when I was in a hurry or something. I usually just go for drinks and hang out with or without a table.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 27 February 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

I will be spring breaking in L.A. from the 12th to the 18th. i will be looking for shows to go to. later though. now i'm busy.

lemin (lemin), Sunday, 27 February 2005 06:11 (twenty years ago)

pre fap MARCH 3rd STEELY DAN TRIBUTE BAND PRETZEL LOGIC IS PLAYING AT LAVALEE theya re 11 piece and baddass come drink with me!

charleston charge (chaki), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

ATTENTION! Arthur informs me that later on the evening of the 5th (10 pm or so) he is spinning at Akbar! I therefore think that we have a plan on what to do after Cat and Fiddle. Roxor! ILX-friendly dance mania! MIA beats that will not sidetrack into discussion about Christgau and Sri Lanka! (I think.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

hooray, i like eating, ilx pals, and dancing to arthur's music. i'll be there. i don't really like indie beards though and those numbers are troubling.

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

We shall fight the beard amounts. Implicitly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

again, I am not a bastard who thinks he's too cool for ILX, thx

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

Hey, fret not, I never thought you were. One day, good sir. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

ILX is too cool for any of us!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

We're too cool for each other! We'll have to stand at opposite ends of the Cat and Fiddle and say things like "I don't know why HE'S here. Have I told you about my latest project?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

NOW WITH ADDED SPENCER CHOW!

That is such an awesome tagline. I want to make an album with Spencer and release it as a solo work under that title.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Dan, it is odd to me that we have never met!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

It's odd to me, too!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

to avoid any confusion about the added Akbar stuff

I will be at Cat & Fiddle from at least 8-to-11 pm.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

spencer, come to scotland.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 3 March 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

Tomorrow! Remember, be there or we'll cry or something. I should be up in LA and at Amoeba around 6:15 if the trains run on time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 March 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

And a final quick note that this FAP will also be the first LA appearance of Ms. Laura, who you might remember for her work at NASA (she now works at JPL) and who posted more regularly here back in 2003. Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 5 March 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

Keep a look-out for a certain suave Englishman for me.... and happy birthday to the two of you!

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 5 March 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

mike from the young ones is coming!?!?!

charleston charge (chaki), Sunday, 6 March 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

uhh, my roommate has decided he's coming. so please, no comments about the money or the messiness. he's just paid me back $1400, and things are pretty damn tense already. So thx in advance.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Sunday, 6 March 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

haha.. ned is ALREADY ON HIS WAY... its TOO LATE!! BWAWWAGHWGAGA

charleston charge (chaki), Sunday, 6 March 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

Thanks guys - it was a trip. I'm honored to be numbered as an L.A. FAPster.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Sunday, 6 March 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

Happy Birthdays and best wishes Ned & Spencer!

toraneko (toraneko), Sunday, 6 March 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

Thanks! And though I was surprised to see Remy's Notorious Roommate there, I said nothing and the evening passed without comment! Hurrah for everyone who showed up! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 6 March 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

I celebrated Ned and Spencer's in spirit last night by going to ANOTHER friend's b-day party at the Mirabeau Room for "The Bollywood Project" which was a dance night featuring local Djs ANSHUL (an Indian DJ who had just come back from New Dehli and/or Bombay and picked up lots of 12" remixes of cinematic favorites from the last five years), ADVENT, and Kid Hops (who does the reggae/dancehall show on Saturday mornings on KEXP, and was also my friend/b-day boy's roommate) who did an excellent Banghra hip hop set. All three of us chatted and we were in awe because we realized we loved everything playing yet WE.. COULDN'T.... TRAINSPOT... being music geek/DJs so it was just such a relief. And the place was packed and out of control, and for once, it wasn't packed with hardly any local Seattle hipster types either (well, except for me I guess)

donut debonair (donut), Sunday, 6 March 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

OH YOU HIPSTER YOU, daring to cash in on a trend. Oh wait. ;-)

Spotted by Remy and myself yesterday atop Amoeba, with a higher sign than both the Chemcial Brothers and the Mars Volta -- MIA. It's a sign! Or something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 6 March 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

How was Akbar?? Dawn from The Office sat right next to us right after you left!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 7 March 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

Hahah, amazing! :-) Akbar was great, Arthur span a fine mix of ILM-approved goodness (New Order, Daft Punk, Laura Branigan, Jacques Le Cont remixing Gwen Stefani, the Cure, MIA before we arrived, etc.) We cut out right when Chaki and Vic and Lucy arrived, so they'll have to report.

Also, I had a very enjoyable phone call earlier this afternoon with Stevie Chick, who as I suspected is a fine feller to chat with directly. He's in town and in fact should at this point have finished up his interview with one T. Rezn0r for Kerrang -- he apologizes for not being able to attend last night but he was terribly tired, having just arrived yesterday at 7 pm -- and then he's off to London again tomorrow!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 March 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for all the b-day wishes on this thread too!

I think we need more regularly scheduled LA FAPs, especially as the weather improves.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 7 March 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

Well, there's a sort of FAP tonight if you can make it out to Spaceland.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 March 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

Right, but I'm talking about: "Hey ilxors, there will be other ilxors at this bar from 8 to midnight for discussion, therapy and dancing" etc.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 7 March 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

Well yes, this goes without saying! :-) We'll figure it out, and definitely as the weather improves = more FAPs! But yeah, Greg Firstworldman at least is heading up to Spaceland to see Grizzly Bear and/or hang out and chat.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 March 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

There was some truly heroic drinking on Sat.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

It's like Fitzgerald.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

F Scott that is not Ronan.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

Should we start addressing each other by last name? I don't know if it would be fancy or if I'd feel like I was in the Army or something.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

Chow, old bean, when was it last we met? Monte Carlo? Shibuya? Bakersfield?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:43 (twenty years ago)

RAGGETT!! DROP AND GIVE ME TWENTY!!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

Jeez, from The Great Gatsby to Full Metal Jacket in one post.

"Sorry about that old sport! Now when you put your hand in a pile of goo that was your best friend's face..."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

Haha, I guess it would be cool if we used our tony accents and used words like "yar."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

there were no beards at the fap!

charleston charge (chaki), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:02 (twenty years ago)

But you were somewhat bearded, sir!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 01:06 (twenty years ago)

Gear, how did the beard dance party go???

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 04:24 (twenty years ago)

a dozen beards, much fewer than I hoped for. 30+ clean-shaven cowards. girls who loved beards. one ridiculously hot girl's number PWNED. However, she's bad news so I won't follow up. incredibly, about five people came up to me and complimented me on playing Annie. the song that got the floor moving the most? there were three: Superstylin, Romeo, One More Time, played in that order.

7 hours of DJing.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)
