Dust collector, noisy and no lubrication?

I recently bought an el-cheapo 1hp dust collector ($160CDN new!) The thing works great, and the overall finish was pretty good for such a cheap unit.

However, when I shut the motor/impeller off, it spins for a second, then I hear what sounds like a centifugal clutch dropping out. Then, something inside spins down but there is NO lubrication and it
screetches like a banshee. Direct metal on metal.

I don't mind taking it apart to fix it. Can anyone point me in the
correct place to start looking just based on my description? (I post an mp3!)

Thanks
Rob

God, I thought this was going to be much dirtier.

our dust collectors often need attention around the fans... sometimes the bolt which holds the fan on it's shaft comes loose enough to let the fan blades spin freely on the shaft. (sometimes this can result in a brief shaking/rattling sound as it slows down, as the looseness/vibration moves through a kind of "harmonic looping" - not sure exactly how to word this- where the speed and vibration are matched such that it makes itself rattle until it gets a bit slower)

at least you should unscrew the cover plate and have a look in there

wait, is it actually you posting this? is this a real question or are you pasting it from somewhere??
