In a couple of weeks checks will disappear in my country. No longer in use. From then on only cashola, credit/debit cards.

In Japan you have to estimate the amount you will be writing into a chequebook altogether, and then pay 10% oif that in order to receive the new book.

Birds with wings, we don't get porno chequebooks. Yet. This must be why Pete has taken charge of the household bills, cos I have a NatWest creatures of the wild chequebook and he likes to look at the ickle animals. American system is like this: some cheques are free but they are a very basic design. When you order chequebooks they send you a whole box of them rather than one book at a time, and if you want anything vaguely customised you have to pay for it. Many do. Also some places won't take cheques under a certain number like 500.

Now that is just not true anthony - I work for a major-ish Canadian bank and the cheques work exactly as Suzy says i.e. basic is free. Who are you with - CIBC or something?
