Nice weather we're having.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

Fun!

A section of the Hollywood Freeway in Los Angeles was shut down for several hours late Monday because it was flooded by as much as 5 feet of water.

The wild weather came from a series of storms that began battering the state on Thursday, dumping 6.5 inches of rain in downtown Los Angeles.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

Wet enough for ya?

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

NEVER. Um, what?

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Absolute sheets of rain here at UCI in the last half hour -- heavy fog level obscurity when it came to visibility.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

Because everyone wants to see an elephant in a rain slicker.

Aw, Jumbo.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Hey, this is the price you pay for deciding not to have winter like the rest of us.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

I realize this is unsual in any case, but is this time of year typically the rainiest?

()ops (()()ps), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

I never knew how much I wanted to see an elephant in a rain slicker until that picture - thank you!

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

i was on sunset last night when it started really coming down around 2 am right when the bars clothes. it was amazing seeing all these people in nice ass clothes getting SOAKED!

charleston charge (chaki), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

It's always weird on these days when SF weather is better than SoCal weather.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

It's disgusting! The power was shut down for 10 hours last night because of water flooding a power substation! This is the second time this week this has happened.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

right when the bars clothes

doh! "close" thank you carry on

charleston charge (chaki), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

()ops, yes, Feb. and March are usually the wettest months for SoCal, but "wet" usually means about 5 inches total for both months... not 6.5 in a matter of days.. and more to come surely.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

Meanwhile, Seattle has been sunny for over two weeks straight.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

I think my brain is trying to kill me - whenever I drive by one of river outlets, some part of me always wants to dive in and swim.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

donut, you freak. ;-)

Luna, think of it as providing the best skin peel ever.

you might want to Admin the message title, it's pretty gorgeous (sunny, blue skies) here.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

What of your so-called 'California,' gygax? ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

I'd love to reply but I'm going to go out and sunbathe! ciao!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

*couple of hours pass, gygax! curses the fog and cries...*

GLAD I WAS IN NYC

Who did release magic family out from the base of $499 (deangulberry), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

God, yesterday was impressive. I was fishing on a narrow seawall that juts out into the Bay from Alameda, being pelted with hail and sheets of rain, and lightning & thunder crashing non-stop. It was biblical as all getout.

Oh you'll get yours....

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

The thunderheads here yesterday were positively southwestern.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

Apparently this the wettest year EVER thru the end of Feb - 32 inches (avg. 9.89)

38 inches is the record for an entire year - set in 1883-84. 6 more inches to go!

kickitcricket (kickitcricket), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Hands up who's heard that line used before.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

That's quite a setup!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 00:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm out here visiting my in-laws and it's a real WTF: from 16 degrees in NYC on Saturday to some kind of Biblical flood scene right now.

Remember to look at those mountain ranges usually obscured by smog and all the other attendant pleasures that follow a good L.A. rainfall. It will be beautiful.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 00:57 (twenty years ago)

i love when it rains at disneyland because they give out free slickers with mickey on em

charleston charge (chaki), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:00 (twenty years ago)

Remy do you live near western? I got totally fucked yesterday trying to drive back to the westside from hollywood and western. Blackouts, beverly blvd completely shut down, people driving through intersections not knowing how to act. No fun.

Dude, are you a 15 year old asian chick? (jingleberries), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

Hey, you don't need to remind us, trust me. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

L.A. is always beautiful... to me.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

**Wait, for how long? Will y'all be around next weekend?**

Ned I just sent you an email w/ contact info from my mudda-in-law's unreliable computer. My schedule's a little weird but let's talk I'd love to meet. I'm checking my email back at home too but I can't seem to reply from there.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

Surprise! My urgent overnight UPS package actually made it to San Luis Obispo today! When I tracked the package earlier and it said it was held up in LA due to the weather, I figured it was fucked until tomorrow, but it made it to SLO late this afternoon. Whahey!

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

Ned I just sent you an email

Responded! Um, check the address you wrote from, or I'll rewrite to yours as needed.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

could have fooled me, of course. I parked my car (quite legally, I might add) on Los Feliz Blvd just now, whilst an asshole in a BMW SUV was on my tail. He honked and keep edging up and flashing his lights, trying to get me to move, even though the sign said "no parking between 7am and 9am", and true enough, it was about 6pm. He then actually BUMPED my bumper, so I reached in my back seat, grabbed a wrench I had in there, and exited my car with the intention of gently tapping his hood a little bit. He backed up quickly (SKREEE!!) and took off. Bastard.
