Being stoned, loving it but hating it too, a dilemma

For years I've been in the habit of smoking hash - not even good stuff, just the crappy old resin one buys for £20 per half ounce.

Don't get me wrong - I love being stoned, relaxed, enjoying the telly, enjoying conversations more, sleeping better etc, but something is niggling at me that we shouldn't be doing it.

I keep putting my foot down and telling Kev we're off it - that's it - no more! And I get rid of all the skins, roach and nail scissors (I like a well cut roach), and for a few weeks that's it. While we're off it I get more done, I'm not as compelled to lie on the sofa reading a book or watching Ground Force, I look around the house for things I could be doing - cleaning, tidying, and re-cleaning compulsively.

Kev doesn't worry at all, he'd rather be stoned of an evening and I guess the biggest part of me would too. We'll be buying a house in the near future then trying for a baby and we know there will be no dope smoking in our new house and prior to conception.

I feel that it's changing me in some way but I don't know how - the only difference I feel when it's out of system is boredom and anxiety, and a tendency to drink more. Why can't I just relax and enjoy it like he can?

Relax, have a drink.

I mean, I'm not a drug guy, but life's too short.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

Do you hate fun? ;-) Honestly, the last two times I smoked a joint, I had a blasting headache for two/three days. Grrrr. Will..Not...Give..Up.

I know, it IS fun, and my only vice! Sometimes I feel that I am too old for it though, how can other people i.e our families come home from work, do a bit of housework and watch the telly without it yet we can't? WTF is that?

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

I like giving it up for a few weeks and then having a lickle bun, you get all chirpy and upbeat and can stay up talking shit for hours.

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

I feel the general concensus here is STAY STONED.

I shall purchase another half o tonight. (and end up hating myself for lack of resolve)

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

Their lives are dull and uninteresting by comparison with your hedonistic drug fueled hyperexistance.

I know, it IS fun, and my only vice!

Then who gives a shit? As long as you're still going to work, seeing your friends, making competent decisions about your life, happy in a good relationship, eating properly, getting some exercise, who cares if you smoke a joint in the evenings?

Frequent breaks without it make me approaciate more. Easy in my case, as I alternate care-free binge smoking with abstinent periods worrying about lung cancer.

I don't touch soapbar myself these days - there's a lot on the net about the pollutants which will put you off it if you read it.

For some reason weed is much more difficult to come by, we have a couple of sources but it's not regular by any means, and is more expensive.

I'm too scared to read about the pollutants in soapbar, I could well imagine...

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

I think I am trying to stop drinking and smoking.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Pah! In my experience one needs one or the other if not both.

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

it would be better, if one didn't.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Why of course! But one finds that this is not particularly easy, speaking as one who has made the futile attempt previously.

One simply cannot bear to live without ones intoxicants.

One is rather pathetic and empty one feels. Sigh.

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

The question is answered in your first sentence. Resolve to stop until you get something better quality - seriously, you'll be very happy! Then again, that's easy for me to say, being in BC. I mean, yesterday a crackhead gave me a bag of bud for 50 cents, an hour later I lost it (I think it fell on the floor in Blenz Coffee) so I just went back and got another one. I understand the UK is different.

The last two times I've smoked up I've just been in an uttterly shit mood - every stress I had on my mind just expanded tenfold. I'm gonna pass for a while.

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

Last time, I ate some of a brownie, put on some music and cleaned my kitchen. Best time I've had on weed in a while.

Man I'm moving to BC.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 13 January 2006 04:45 (nineteen years ago)

I want to be a crackhead in BC--they must all be independently wealthy if they can afford to operate a business with such low profit margins.

LC, Friday, 13 January 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT FOR ME TO SCORE SOME WEED??

Since running out of my last gear, the only drug-related conversation I have exchanged with anyone has been people trying to buy pills from me. Perhaps it's just the way I look.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 13 January 2006 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

I ran out of weed last week and teh friend I get shit off has decided, after a bad new year's E, to go clean. GAH. I will not go to see a dealer myself dammit!! So, I must do without.
