I wish I had the confidence to.............

This is the thread where we list the things we wish we had the confidence or the balls to do. Maybe we can help each other!

I wish I had the confidence to have my hair cut short. It's in a constant ponytail because it's too frizzy to wear down (I've inherited some of my dads afro hair and some of my mums poker straight hair - interesting mix) and to be honest it couldn't be any worse than it is now. It comes to weddings, nights out etc and all I can do is tie it back with a more interesting band, or clip it up. Bo-ring.

But I'm terrified to walk into my work with a brand new hair do. That is the ONLY thing stopping me.

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

ask boys out!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

Will that solve his hair issue?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

haha sorry obviously i meant i wish i had the confidence to ask boys out. interestingly (or not) i have mental frizzy hair which i'm afraid to cut short too. maybe there's a correlation. although i really couldn't give a shit what my colleagues would think of a new hairdo, but i reckon it'd be too much hassle trying to 'style' it.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

I couldn't be bothered with the styling aspect either, I'd be looking for something very low maintainance.

Have you asked boys out before Gem? Is there someone you have your eye on just now?

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:39 (twenty years ago)

I asked the beautiful girl from the radio station out, and she said yes! We're seeing each other on Friday, and though we’re somewhat at the ambiguous are-we-hanging-out-or-is-this-a-date stage, which I hate and always bungle, all the signals she’s sending me are pretty positive. Still, when I saw her today (and I know she saw me, too), I definitely ran away as fast as my legs would carry me. Probably a bad move, huh?

Fa Fa fa FA, Fa fa Fa fa FA Fa (poop), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:44 (twenty years ago)

However, I did have the foolhardy bravery to go under my roommate's desk scissors last weekend, and he have me a surprisingly competent haircut.

Fa Fa fa FA, Fa fa Fa fa FA Fa (poop), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

Shit, you ran? Is there a chance you might see her about again today? If so just tell her you had to shit urgently or something. Talk to her, ask her if she enjoyed herself last night. Face her!

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:51 (twenty years ago)

My hair went from long (and messy) to fairly short a couple of weeks ago. By the end of the first day at work, I was *very* bored with people going "bloody hell! What have you done!?"

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:58 (twenty years ago)

(although, to be honest, my problem was more that I didn't have enough confidence to not cut my hair, if that makes any sense.)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

I understand that! My hair is unbearable, it's my worst feature. I need to soak it with water every morning before I can get a brush through it.

It would make my life so much easier if I chopped it off, I don't know if I could be bothered with the attention though.

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:07 (twenty years ago)

go for 80s style short vertical frizzy hair.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

Another issue was that my hair was in *such* a bad state that getting rid of all the messy bits and split ends was practically impossible without chopping off the whole thing.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

Caitlin, I think our hair was seperated at birth.

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

I think you should do it Rumpy! You'll have to put up with one day of people's startled comments but after that it could be the start of a whole new hair era! (I cut all my hair off a few years ago and although I'll never do it again I don't regret the experiment.)

I wish I had the confidence to... talk at length without blushing.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

Rumpy, I had something like an excuse, since I had a meeting I had to go to, but it was a pretty bad move. I thought I might just pretend it never happened?

Fa Fa fa FA, Fa fa Fa fa FA Fa (poop), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

By the by, I, too, think you should chop off your hair. I once went from a crazy, clown-like mane down to a neat little spiky deal, and it made life thoroughly easier. Most people--some perhaps only because it's the polite thing to do--complimented me on it afterwards, and the attention was gratifying.

Fa Fa fa FA, Fa fa Fa fa FA Fa (poop), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, I think I'll take the plunge on saturday, wish me luck!

Archel, I don't blush, but sometimes I start to talk shit halfway through a sentence when people start listening to me. I just become totally self conscious and what I have to say suddenly sounds rubbish.

Don't know if blushing is something one can control?

I think you should talk to her man! Only good can come of it. What if she wants to take it further?

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

I've come to think that blushing is VERY difficult to control, since I am rarely actually feeling nervous when I do it, and yet it's never gone away. It seems to be on some deep physiological level.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

It's teh cutex0r though, Archie.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

i had my haircut last weekend after like half a year of non-cuttage and office comments were guarenteed. but then again both my old and new hair were sexxy and so it was all just like "hey nice hair" etc. and i came up with the best line ever of "haha yeah i just came into some money and so i could afford a haircut" and then we all roffled and conversation re: hair ends.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

I've always found short hair (on girls) more attractive than long hair. I've shaved off the hair of several girls myself, and afterwards they've always looked HOT!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

That could be misconstrued as being psychotic.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Tuomas, you are one strange little man.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

I like short hair, too, but not to the exclusion of long hair.

???

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

Did you get their permission, or were they bound & gagged?

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

Both, I hope.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

I have a shaving machine (that's how I keep my own hair short) and they were my friends, they asked me to shave their heads. Last time I did this was a couple of weeks ago. Is there something wrong with it?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

I just love how you don't view shaving the heads of multiple girls as anything out of the ordinary. That's all. And no, there is nothing wrong with that at all.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Maybe my friends are weird, I dunno.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Rumpy Pumpy, sorry if this is dumb, but are you a girl or a boy? Because if you're a boy I'd just go with a big afro, some girls might be keen on it. If you're a girl, have you considered relaxing your hair? It really does work.

I wish I had the confidence to talk to strangers - while sober.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

I wish I had the sense to forego talking to strangers - while drunk.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

I wish I had the confidence to talk to strangers sober without putting on some transparent cornball show that's obviously a cover for my anxiety. I should either relax or shut up, one of the two.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

I think Rumpy's a girl.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

What's "relaxing your hair"?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Really, I find courage to be one of the most useful of the virtues. It comes in handy for a thousand common household chores.

Sometimes it just takes a bit of time to screw one's courage to the sticking point. Just keep murmuring, "I am strong. I am invincible. I am Woman!" under your breath. If you keep working at it, eventually you'll get in the habit of courage. You'll like yourself that way.

Aimless (Aimless), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

But what if I'm a Man?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

If that doesn't convince you, you can also repeat to yourself "fuck it - what does it matter?"

xpost

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

Not applicable to Rumpy Pumpkin - but make personal adjustments, as needed or desired, Tuomas.

Aimless (Aimless), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

I wish I had the confidence to stop writing music reviews and finally write something important.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

i picture tuomas's "shaving machine" as a giant walk-in metal box covered in wires and dials

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Gets rid of all hair in one easy step!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

Is it weird if I say I wish I had the confidence to lick balls? But I think that's more of a preference issue, not a confidence problem. I just don't like doing it.

(But at least I kinda feel bad about it.)

sugarpants (sugarpants), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:32 (twenty years ago)

It's more of a flexibility issue for me.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

A Hair relaxer is a chemical treatment that is basically like a turbocharged conditioning treatment for people with thick, coarse, unruly hair who want soft, thinner, straighter hair.

Also to consider is a japanese perm which is basically another straightening process. A friend of mine has it done and it looks fantastic. The problem with the japanese perm is that it's very expensive.

Also, either of these can be done for either sex, Tuomas.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

But I think that's more of a preference issue, not a confidence problem.

Yeah, if you've got into the position where you're able to lick someone's balls, I donät think it's a question of confidence whether you do so. Balls are yechhy and hairy anyway. I'd say 99% of guys are perfectly happy if you just lick the tip of their penis.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

I should note, however, that a japanese perm is usually $700+ - JUST FYI.

KAY BYE.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

Licking balls is way cheaper.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

There's an easy answer there, too -- Tuomas's shaving machine = smooth, hairless balls every time! Wash them thoroughly and lick away.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Tuomas! You have restored my OK-ness with not licking balls.

:D :D :D

sugarpants (sugarpants), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

Glad to be of help!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Where besides an anonymous InterWeb message board could you get your ball-licking problems solved by a bald Finn?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

I guess I could do a Google search, but I am a-feared of the possible results.

By the way, I don't think it's weird to like girls with super-short hair. I'm one of 'em!

sugarpants (sugarpants), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Are we still talking about genitals?

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

When aren't we talking about genitals, Jeanne?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

I've shaved girls' genitals. It was great fun. Great and very, very careful fun.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

I can see how ball-licking could be a confidence issue. You know, it's a really tender area, and it's not something you want to dig into if you're not fully comfortable with the action/reaction ratio inherent in scrotum-play. One, maybe wary of the fact that a little too much tongue pressing in the wrong place may cause some discomfort in the ball-lickee, might be put off even attempting activating testicular bravery.

I can't believe I've had to type "ball-lickee" twice today.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

scrotum-play

OMG LOLOLOLOLOLOL OMG

I am afraid of balls. I don't think shaving them would make me feel better, especially if I had to do the shaving.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

DON'T TELL MY MOM ABOUT THIS OKAY

sugarpants (sugarpants), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

MoooOOM! Sugarpants won't shave my balls!

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

"Bite into"?
Nicka, that (poor) choice of words made me squirm.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

On the other hand, my ex-boyfriend loved to have his balls squeezed HARD when we were getting it on. Well, he never actually asked me to - he was very shy about asking for stuff during sex - but he certainly seemed to enjoy it.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Erm, sticking to the actual thread question, I lack confidence with women. But at least I don't have to worry about hairy balls. So yay me!

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

I wish I had the confidence to speak Russian. In Georgia I was okay with it once I got into Russian-thinking-mode, but in class or when I see a professor in the hallway I invariably start stuttering, mispronouncing things, and making grammatical mistakes out of nervousness. It's embarrasing, if I didn't get good test grades they'd all think I was a complete moron.

Maria (Maria), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Mandee I'm a girl. Have been realxing my hair at home for years now - I fear for it's health. Had it done 'professionally' at Vidal Sassoon when I was 18 and the burnt it so badly that now, 8 years later I still have really short bits that refuse to grow in. My scalp was leaking and my hair stuck to it. One of the worst experiences of my life. Needless to say I very rarely visit hairdressers now - too scared of them!

I should have sought legal advice but I couldn't even bring myself to leave the house after the event. My hair has been tied back ever since!

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 24 February 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

I want to get all my hair cut off as well, but I've never had REALLY short hair before - I'm quite scared. ANd I reckon I could probably leave it for a week or two - I think no hair would be a bad idea given the weather/

mmm, hats look daft on me due to the bulbousness of my hair, therefore the weather would not be a problem - my hats will look fine.
