Does anyone know what kind of cultural things are going on down in Cork this year, and if I should go to any of them?

One day I will visit. Did you know, DV -- there was a story in a recent issue of Smithsonian over here that made the breathless observation that Ireland has modern technology, contains people with cell phones, and is a forward looking hip country of the now! (They liked talking about that big ol' spike outside the Dublin Post Office too.)

Actually, Ballyragget has only the one t.

Pleasantly situated on the river Nore, a planned town with a well laid out town square and fair green. There is also a imposing tower house on private land in this town.

the last I heard mobile phone penetration (MATRRRON!) was higher here than in the USA.

but back to Cork... what's going on down there?

seventeen years pass...

I think of going, soon, to Cork, and Kerry.

Is it a good idea and do you recommend ways to travel, places to stay and things to see?

Flying into Cork and taking the wild Atlantic coast road round to Dingle and Tralee is highly recommended.

Would probably need a friendly driver to chaffeur you tho, unless you fancy hitch-hiking.
