"Love, my readers and brothers, is, in the world and in life, the most tragic thing there is. Love is the child of illusion and the parent of disillusion. Love is consolation in desolation, it is the only remedy against death, since it is death's sister."
--Miguel de Unamuno

"You know love is a happy time. All throughout the universe.
It's when the male part of the species goes to the female part of the species and says: "Hey, do you want to go on a date?" And then she would say: "Why yes, I'd like to go on a date." If you're LUCKY!-
And then you go to a restaurant, and she gets something called
A salad. And then he gets a big piece of beef, that he eats.
And that to me ladies and gentlemen, is LOVE."

Hi Johnny!! Love is hearing your tone! You are absolutely one of my favorite bass players of all time! I just bought Township Bop, the Blue Notes comp, last week and am enjoying it. Pity you don't play on more of it tho. I nominated your Song For Biko on that 70s poll on ILM, but it doesn't have a chance of winning, people have bad taste over there. But I wanted to rep for you anyway. Ok, take care now!

1: If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2: And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3: If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4: Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful;

5: it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

6: it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.

7: Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8: Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

9: For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect;

10: but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away.

11: When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

12: For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood.

13: So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

I think all that's very true. You just gotta dig that.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Saturday, 26 February 2005 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

hm. Translations, translations. This is translated (supposedly) directly from the Greek, and not filtered through the Latin or German.

1 Corinthians 13:1-13

1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but do not have love, I have become a sounding [piece of] brass or a clashing cymbal. 2 And if I have the gift of prophesying and am acquainted with all the sacred secrets and all knowledge, and if I have all the faith so as to transplant mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 And if I give all my belongings to feed others, and if I hand over my body, that I may boast, but do not have love, I am not profited at all.

4 Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, 5 does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. 6 It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are [gifts of] prophesying, they will be done away with; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will be done away with. 9 For we have partial knowledge and we prophesy partially; 10 but when that which is complete arrives, that which is partial will be done away with. 11 When I was a babe, I used to speak as a babe, to think as a babe, to reason as a babe; but now that I have become a man, I have done away with the [traits] of a babe. 12 For at present we see in hazy outline by means of a metal mirror, but then it will be face to face. At present I know partially, but then I shall know accurately even as I am accurately known. 13 Now, however, there remain faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

I have my preferences. I prefer "wrong" to "unrighteousness," and ENORMOUSLY prefer "child" to "babe," but I also vastly prefer "love never fails" to "love never ends." Seems truer to the spirit of the piece, really. Something that never ends is more like God than any human endeavor. The most perfect thing we here can have is something that never fails -- still impossible, but at least in the right scale.

three years pass...

Love is in the air. I can can feel it in the air tonight. I just saw Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. The focus of the movie wasn't indie bands and none of them really stood out like The Shins in Garden State (blarg). Anyways I think that possibly maybe today is a good day for love and I should try my chances with hot chicks on all the free online dating sites. Do y'all think love is in the air or is my 6th sense acting haywire? (guys can have 6th senses too by the way).
