This is probably better for the world than it seems. Russia is not going to want a nuclear bomb owning power on the borders of the former USSR. It's the old spheres of influence game in Persia. It's been going on for 200 years and more. The US (British Empire) has Afghanistan so Russia (or germany) has to have persia.
