Do you feel compelled to cough up big wads of phlegm in the morning? I do. And my girlfriend can't stand it. But, what can I do? It's got to come out.

haha "goop in the throat", your username makes me horny

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Also: yes, yes I do.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

So long as you're not coughing it up on her.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I do it in the shower, out of earshot of my girlfriend. The steam helps clear things out immensely.

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahah. Phlegmish Cap. Nice "Perfect Storm" allusion there.

Yes, I do it too. Try drinking hot tea, maybe that'll thin it out.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i've had to do it lately. i don't know if it's the weather or what.

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

it never gets to the phlegm in throat point, it's always snot in my nose. and yeah, shower takes care of it well.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I do this thing sometimes where I'll take these most-huge-deep-breathes-I-can-must, like ten of 'em, first thing in the morning, in the steamy showered up bathroom, and usually by the tenth one, all this shit is coming loose, ready to leap forth into the quick death of the toilet bowl. I'm not sure if you would be coughing up the same sorta bongchitis glop as I do though.

OMG Kelsey aren't you a girl! Girls do it too, hooray!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

deep-breathes-I-can-muster

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

bongchitis

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't smoke at all, really.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't drink milk in the evening!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I really don't drink milk at all, really.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

'I don't smoke at all, really...'

That doesn't sound very convincing.

andy --, Monday, 28 February 2005 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

that was the point! i lapsed a little lately, and do smoke pot occasionally, but i made this entire weekend without smoking a cigarette so that's cool.

i only drink soymilk tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a smoker, and I don't do this - well, except when I have some nasty bug, but that is short term.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the guy in the apartment next to mine is dying of TB. He hacks every morning for about 40 minutes, great whopping racking hacks. And then has a cigarette out the window (it's a non-smoking building.) The place feels like a tenement in a Gorky story, I gotta move!

andy --, Monday, 28 February 2005 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I've actually had a problem with this since May or so. Where I had to hack up a lot of phlegm every day. And I only smoke pot occasionally. No other smoking. It gets really bad whenever I have a cold. I saw my doctor about it twice but he didn't really cure anything.

Okay, sorry.

Laszlo Kovacs (Laszlo Kovacs), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops. At the end it was supposed to say html ending gross.

Laszlo Kovacs (Laszlo Kovacs), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Nickalish is OTM about the bongchitis :/

Only my spitglobs are usually more bad sinus globs, but I still have to de-gunk in the mornings. Urgh.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

hot shower frees up the passages
mucus flowing down the drain
still sometimes
i gag and puke

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't smoke, i don't drink dairy milk.
i think i've just been super sinus-y this winter...

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I do it in the shower, out of earshot of my girlfriend.

we can totally hear you.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

we hear you when you poop, too, even if you run the shower.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 28 February 2005 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Part of being in a relationship is learning not to be grossed out by the normal bodily functions of your partner, and occasionally even the not-so-normal ones.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i just took a shower, and despite being up for hours i still did the snot-running thing. weird.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 28 February 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

move to new york, where the insane radiators will turn your phlegm to finely sculpted rock

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I only have trouble with phlegm when I have a chest cold. I'm surprised to hear that non-smokers who aren't sick are having this trouble.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Had this for about 2 weeks. I had a sinus infection for 3-4 days, it's gone, but the phlegm still rises. This happens to me many times during winter. The worst one I ever had had me breathing it in, or maybe it was manufactured in my lungs, and I had to choke and heave up great ropy green & brown chunks every 10-15 minutes in order not to drown. Snorting warm salt water into your sinuses can help a whole lot when they're clogged, but when the phlegm just comes from nowhere the steamy shower is best.
