You're now allowed one free credit report a year, so you choose one of the credit reporting agencies. Experian seems to be the fastest, they gave me the info online, immediately.
I bought into the new terror and figured some Nigerians were buying jetski's in my name. But, alas, there's nothing at all: no negative, no "accounts in good standing," I'm just off the books, though it did show when I (unsuccessfully) applied for a motorcycle loan a couple years ago.

When I tried to get mine a while back, it basically said "There's a problem, you'll need to give us more info, here's a form." They won't admit if they don't have you on their records; they try to make it fairly difficult for you to get your records; and they are certainly using this to get information on more people. Ah well.
