Me & my gal, with another couple, are in New York for 4 days in May. Where do we go, what do we see, where do we eat, etc etc?

Bowery Boy, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

for lunch I recomend pizza in the grimiest hole in the wall you can find.

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright, that's a start. Anything else to do?

Bowery Boy, Wednesday, 2 March 2005 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

don't listen to lukey. all pizza is not the same! i have my favorites, but slice ny may be of more help to you.

also, the search function. there are quite a few threads offering nyc advice.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe a new one for 2005 is okay? esp. as i'm back there soon

stuff i didn't do last time that i must do this time:

1) Circle ferry around Manhattan Island
2) Ellis Island
3) Try Brooklyn more
4) Roosevelt island skycar thingy
5) Walk around the west side, Greenwich etc.
6) Empire State Building duh
7) walk over Brooklyn Bridge (as opposed to Williamsburg bridge haha)
8) Met museum
9) meet Jody if she's in town, plus any other ILX people i didn't see last time
10) Harlem?

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

9) meet Jody if she's in town

hell yeah. when are you gonna be here?

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

27/4 to 2/5 but we'll arrange FAP and stuff nearer the time i'm thinking. i still have to sort out accommodation for much our stay there too.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

4) Roosevelt island skycar thingy

this is fun but i wish the ride was longer (it only takes like 4 minutes to get from manhattan to roosevelt island). and i wish they still took tokens (which they just stopped doing last year). and i wish roosevelt island itself wasn't so ugly and boring.

did you go on the staten island ferry last time? it's freeeeeeeeeeeee.

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i did, i probably will again because it was great (tho i only spent like 30 minutes in Staten itself)

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i was trying to remember what happened on the night that you arrived.. did you actually walk from the airport?

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd really appreciate some affordable, central, child-friendly accommodation recommendations please.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll try to find the name of the place i stayed in for a few nights before my move. it was in gramercy, reasonable, comfortable, stylish, etc and seemed to be split between family and business travellers.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Lauren, that would be great!

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i've recommended the gershwin hotel on this board, and by gum i'll do it again.

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

also, sometimes the omni berkshire place has good deals -- it's a bit plain-looking as far as "luxury" hotels go, but the beds are insanely comfortable and the bathrooms are pretty pimped out.

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i stayed at the marcel. also, the roger williams and the chandler might be good to look into (all gramercy/murray hill area). i'd recommend the neighborhood as you'll be in a lovely, slightly more residential location with much better overall dining options than midtown offers.

xpost - i like the gershwin, too, but depending on the age/personality of the kids it might not be suitable.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve extend your stay until the 8th and you can go to my super-duper-awesome Kentucky Derby party!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The Roger Williams seems very swank.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 3 March 2005 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

there's that new andre balazs budget hotel near times square. they have a dj booth overlooking a pool where you can swim up the bar. but it sounds cooler than it looks. theyre not really finished building it yet, but its open. its called like Hotel QT

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 3 March 2005 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I live on same block as the Marcel, have heard good things. Frodo was staying there a couple weeks ago!

W i l l (common_person), Thursday, 3 March 2005 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Go to Coney Island, get drunk at Rudy's with an old beach freak.

Meet a nice 'girl' in the meat packing district.

Play paintball on the trendies in Williamsberg.

iang, Thursday, 3 March 2005 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

you can play paintball at shoot the freak in coney island too.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 3 March 2005 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

then you can join the army!

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Thursday, 3 March 2005 06:30 (twenty-one years ago)

$5 for 15 shots vs. $15K for being shot at.

i'll pass.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 3 March 2005 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I could be wrong but I think the trannies in the meatpacking district have moved on. I haven't seen any of them there since I've been back, and the new feel of that neighborhood seem unconducive. I wonder where they've gone?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 3 March 2005 06:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno but i saw a 6'5", maybe 6'6" one at this birthday party i was at last week.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 3 March 2005 06:57 (twenty-one years ago)

dude they put the army recruiting center like a stone's throw away from shoot the freak for a reason.

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Thursday, 3 March 2005 07:16 (twenty-one years ago)

oooooooooooooh, now I know what you're talking about. I thot you just meant, like, in general. 'cause the subway ride from coney island to times square is Looooooooooong.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 3 March 2005 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)
