my sainted mudder has apparently spent an obscene amount buying (basically) speed from some dodgy website. unfortunately in this case she probably learned it by watching me. did yr parents (DO yr parents) do drugs? were they open about their history?

my mom's anti-drug is bloody mary's.

jess, Monday, 3 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My parents didn't take drugs as far as I know, and I never did. I have one son who has though and is getting help as we speak and I'm happy about that.! :) Gale

The idea of my parents buying and using illegal drugs, or abusing the legal stuff, would leave me laughing. Could *never* happen! They'd be so uninterested...

The only drug my mother needs is her love for me. My dad likes kaluha.

di: your olds are actually abstract four-sided figures with regular sides and internal angles of 90 degrees. That is SO cool. ;-)

I've taken more drugs than both my parents put together. And I've really not taken very many drugs. I think my Mum had the odd pill in the 60s, that's all. I wish my Dad liked going to the pub though - it would be great to do that with him.

Only soft drugs. In my presence. They stopped when I was 14, I think, after my mother smoked some really heavy joint which freaked her out. Oh they were pretty open about their history (drugs and other things).

helen fordsdale, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My sister offered my mum a joint to help with her joints (ie chronic arthritis) and she is now a wide-eyed reefer-crazed convert. More and more common, I think.

My mother went to college from 1966 to 1970. She studied art education and hung out with HIPPIES. There is no way I'd believe her if she said she's never tried drugs.

rosemary, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My mum said that she tried dope once and giggled which I think is sweet. I think its more than that though, because in her youth she hung out with 'The Fiery Creations' - the ne'er do wells who organised the 1969/70 Isle of Wight Music Festivals. My grandad, her dad, was the headteacher of the Carisbrooke Grammar and once confiscated 15 oz of dope in one day. I reckon more stuff like this happened in my mum's youth but she just smiles enigmatically and refuses to let on.

Will, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think my mother tried marijuana once, other than that I think they didn't bother. Their preference is for copious amounts of alcohol. They used to get concerned their children weren't drinking enough

Menelaus Darcy, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my mum, obviously, has a very liberal attitude towards the (benign) drugs (and now apparently not-so-benign.) quothe: "pot's not a drug."

jess, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Following a conversation with one of my domestic acquaintances I have decided not to mention my, or my parents or any other party known to me in relation to drug use. I do not wish to become a drugs bore.

alix, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My parents haven't even smoked TOBACCO, let alone anything else. Squares.

DG, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dear old muddled Pop drank Labbatt's 50 and smoked joint after joint while I sat at the kitchen table watching Barney Miller. I'd wake up to hear him weeping drunk in the middle of the night. I had to pick him up of the floor from where he passed out, naked and bloated and red. He remarried in the eighties and the smoke cleared but there would be Scotch in his morning coffee cup or else shaking hands. Near felled by cancer of the asshole, he quit smoking entirely but kept drinking - only 3 or 4 beers a day last I saw him. He started buying fancy imported beers, odd-shaped Belgian bottles and such, as if it was all benign hobby like collecting stamps. I haven't spoken to him in 4 years, since the cancer was all successfully excised. My whole life is paralyzed by the guilt of having cut him out of my life.

My parents were pretty open. They told me about their experiences with peyote and mescaline. Pot was smoked regularly and openly around the house. I also saw them and their friends do speed, coke and pills pretty frequently. My mother's been clean for a decade after going through tons of rehab and my dad's in prison. So there you go.
