Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

mrs beeton recommends — as food for invalids no less — a TOAST sandwich = two thin slices of bread with a slice of toast for the filling!

Tofurkey on focaccia

tremendoid (tremendoid), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

You're all wrong because these are all sandwiches Keith Richards might make at 4am after a gig.

It's a three decker BLT with avocado and salmon with a toothpick through it and a French flag on top.

super-techno non-rockist dudes are all really skinny and don't eat sammiches so this is a trick question.

Pop tarts.

I've always wondered about the techno vs rock conundrum. IT is a false war. The real fite is between techno and house techno encompassing punk and da funk and house being the realm of disco, the white man's overbite, mc hammer and boy bands.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

there's no fite at all, which is the real fite.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

Latebloomer wins.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

house being the realm of disco, the white man's overbite, mc hammer and boy bands

Which is why House roolz. But sometimes you get really drunk and wake up in bed with Techno.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

(Actually, I was going to say Stormy wins, but Latebloomer kicks it up a notch. Still has to be on white bread with the crust cut off, though.)

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

"whatchoo know about the bologna and mayonnaise, slice of toasted bread and a napkin?

techno might as well be rock, it's so dour and humourless and so constantly defined by what it isn't.

house is actually dance music.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

aswell as being pop music

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

nobody wants to buy my PLUR.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

My long term mission has been to get into the youth lexicon the idea the 'techno' the word is a synonym for all that is good and that 'house' is a synonym for all that is bad.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Surely the least Rockist sandwich would be a commercial, pre-packaged one such as you might find in Boots or M&S?

"That bread's like, so inauthentic, maaaan."

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

i just use "techno" as shorthand for anything electronic, even if it's house. that's probably bad.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

wine glass sandwich.

I think I may have eaten the least rockist sandwich ever just yesterday: avocado slices with tomato, cucumber and sprouts; spread with faux mayo made of nuts, and "bread" made of dehydrated sprouted flax. At least two ingredients in there are poseurs, but they're very very tasty.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 6 March 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

chocolate and peanut butter

This is unbelievable. All of these ingredients seem antithetical to the traditional definition of flavour: avocado (more of a flavour absorber -- is avocado chalky? mealy? what is it?), cucumber (tastes like water), sprouts (ditto), faux mayo (I have not had, uh, nut mayo, but the soy variety I used to use was not particularly tangy).

This sandwich displays a ruggedly futurist flavour no-aesthetic. I think the presence of flavour in the historical sense is the only barometer of rockism. Sean's sandwich wins.

I always wanted a Dagwood sandwich, though it occurs to me now it must be hard to bite through both a whole crustacean and headful fish in addition to an explosion of the regular fixins.

Abbott, Monday, 30 July 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

spaghetti! I tell you, Dagwood was a rebel.

kenan, Monday, 30 July 2007 17:22 (eighteen years ago)
