Do women experience this most excellent and rare of sensations?

andy --, Monday, 7 March 2005 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

SO IT ISN'T JUST ME?!?

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean like when you have held your pee for a long time, and the you finally get to use the toilet, and it feels SO GREAT! Yes.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, I forgot I'm not a woman.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean like when you have held your pee for a long time, and the you finally get to use the toilet, and it feels SO GREAT! Yes.

NO, the shiver.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

This is so much more specific.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but the shiver happens when you finally get to pee, right? Or is there some sort of other shiver?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

It's post-pee.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It's like, your body changes its body temperature from hot to cold in a second combined with the "rabbit-running-across-your-grave" feeling you sometimes get right before falling asleep.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It can happen mid-pee too.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Very evocative, Pleasant Plains.

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Girls do not talk about these things, evidently. I think they do get the piss shiver, tho.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

since i have no idea what you all are talking about, i say women dont experience it.

jane (jane), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

It is a powerful shiver that travels up your spine from your coccyx to your neck, sending waves of pleasure and relief for a split-second. Far more elusive than the pedestrian orgasm, the piss shiver is a zen-like moment - it can't be planned for, it can't be made forced - when it happens, it happens...

andy --, Monday, 7 March 2005 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe it's a release of pressure off the prostate?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, I never thought of it that way! Could be! Perhaps the gay guys of ILX could tell whether it's comparable to ass sex?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe it has something to do with standing? I'd like all ILX women to begin peeing standing up, that we may hold an informal experiment to determine its origin.

andy --, Monday, 7 March 2005 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is the shiver always so embarrassing to me when it happens in a crowded public restroom?

mcd (mcd), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Because no one likes a show-off.

Matt Chesnut, Monday, 7 March 2005 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I assume drinking plenty of water can alleviate the degree of the shiver, though, right? (although you guys are making it out to be the lost G-spot)

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

(I've never had piss shiver.. I've had the poop shakes though, but that's a different type of, um, pleasure/sensation)

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

There needs to be a band called the Piss Shiver.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Poop shakes! I thought it was Shamrock in March?

andy --, Monday, 7 March 2005 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

It's more like a sneeze than anything.

mcd (mcd), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah - to piggyback donut's posts, I always assumed the shiver to be a bad thing, or at least a neutral type of event (&, actually, now that I drink a lot of water every day, I don't recall having the shiver happen recently).

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

It's in between a sneeze and a shiver.

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

IT'S NOT A BAD THING! We have to learn to overcome the stigma.

andy --, Monday, 7 March 2005 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not a bad thing, but it can be messy if it's strong enough.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

What in the hell are you people talking about? I am never standing at a urinal next to any of you, I am fucking waiting.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was young I met a family friend's child who is autistic. I asked my dad about why he would shake and get excited at seemingly meaningless events, and I was told it was similar to the piss shiver.

And yeah, it's really easy for the stream to go horribly awry when it happens.

Dan M. (OutDatWay), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

its kinda unnerving; xpost: totally agree that in public it makes you feel like you look like a mentally troubled dude shaking with electric shock medication and/or withdrawal and/or craziness.

its a pretty unique sensation. why does it happen?>

my theory is alievation of muscular tension / pressure release in prostate/bladder area in conjunction with semi-tightening of the ass-cheek... makes those nerves go ker-ra-zzeee

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

A Straight Dope classic.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"...semi-tightening of the ass-cheek..."

Your diagnosis sounded fairly scholarly until this phrase.

andy --, Monday, 7 March 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

So maybe this explains people with watersports fetishes? You get twice the orgasm!

Dan M. (OutDatWay), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

but I have only one ass cheek

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, Carlin did do a bit on this. "It's nature's way of shaking off. Goes back to the days when we didn't hold on to it."

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 7 March 2005 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
do not fear the shiver

boo berry (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 01:14 (nineteen years ago)

Ever get shooting butt pains? I guess that's what sciatica is all about, but since it's more constant, it doesn't catch you by surprise when you're walking down the street.
