Whoops. Forgot South Dakota and Idaho. But I was sleeping the entire time, anyway. Does that count?

J (Jay), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

I've never been to Alaska, but that's not a real state anyway.

andy --, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

I know we have a thread on this somewhere.

I've never done this before, and actually find this map quite useful. Clearly I have been neglecting the heartland, or something.

quincie, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

The drive up from Kansas City through Iowa to Minneapolis is very...fragrant.

and i get china because there isn't a hong kong option, but that's cheating.

I do count states that I've only driven through. Coming back from NYC one year, this girl with PA plates and I got behind an orange Porsche that was just tearing it up through the mountains of West Virginia. I made perfect time flying down the highway in this miniature 85 MPH convoy. It was sweet.

Pulling off the side of the road to hang out next to a Vermont stream; Grabbing a Moxie and driving past the state capitol building of New Hampshire. Realizing that even it's the smallest state, it still takes more than an hour to get from Mass. to Conn. via R.I.

I never spent the night in Iowa, but I've spent more than enough time in the state. One sunny afternoon, I watched a thunderstorm approach the interstate from several miles to the west. It got closer and closer before finally it was right on top of me, the rain coming down so hard that some cars were stopping underneath the overpasses. Finally, the rain slowed down and I watched that thunderstorm continue eastward across the cornfields, away from where I was driving.

So that's why i've got places like Connecticut on here.
