Eh? Has Ned resigned or something?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned was fired for liking Tool. ;)

OK no, I'm really sorry I put that, because nothing had been announced or anything. Basically I wanted to take over editing FT again, not because of what Ned was doing but selfishly because of what I *wasn't* doing, i.e. writing anything. I had some ideas and fancied trying to put them into practise on the site, and fingers crossed you should see some of them soon. Editing FT seemed to motivate me in a way not-editing-FT never did. Ned very kindly agreed to step down - he'll still be running, conducting and commissioning Pop:Art interviews.

Anyway I was going to start this thread after Ned does his last update and farewell letter, but thanks to my doofusness it's started now, so -

THANKS NED for all the work you've done and for writing and running some terrific articles while you've been in charge. Three cheers for Ned!

and now the fascist second reign of tom ewing begins. get this folks...he actually plans on REJECTING ARTICLES. based on QUALITY! we're all just his puppets, puppets i tell you!

(i was going to start a thread about this actually on ilm, but whatthefuck, badgerboy beat me to it.)

Yeah I'm going to be more hem hem proactive on the commissioning and editing front I think. I already did reject lots of articles on "here is a review of my mates' band" grounds. And the ones that wanted to be paid.

Dear New Editor (or Re-Editor?),

Does that mean that my Pulp piece won't get posted now? Suspect that it's now a bit too out-of-date to be posted, but never mind.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When I first read that sentence up there (still haven't seen the source yet), I just figured someone was talking about how sociable and friendly Ned is. (Which I'm sure he is, duh.)

David Raposa, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And now I read the source, and I'm still reading the same thing. I envision a jovial Ned, drink in hand, hosting a party where he's the host with the most, always ready with a baudy tale and a kind smile.

I need to read more carefully nowadays.

David Raposa, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A *baudy* tale, sir? You make me sound like a modem. ;-)

I'm going to be more hem hem proactive on the commissioning and editing front I think

*weeps* One of my regrets is that things kept getting away from me in terms of stepping up the pace, but there was still plenty coming in to lurv.

To Marcello -- your piece is prepared and will go up along with the last batch of articles I have tonight. :-)

And of course, thanks for all the kind thoughts. :-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh goodness Ned, I meant I'd be more proactive compared to what *I* used to be like. My old method = wait until article lands in inbox. Put in paragraph tags and let it go. I'll be doing more chasing and stuff now and trying to let articles bounce off each other more. One of the best things about what you've been doing is getting a wider range of people writing.

Tom, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what i REALLY want to know is: can i finally submit my "MTV is shite because they don't play good music anymore" polemic?

jess, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ft ned vs ft tom - FITE

geoff, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

FITE nothing. We'd just share some pints.

I'll be doing more chasing and stuff now and trying to let articles bounce off each other more.

Which reminds me that Sterling has threatened vengeance on you for your voice article. In a nice response-essay way of course. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yes. I keep getting distracted from that -- no time at work to think for long periods. But I am indeed still scheming.

Sterling Clover, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess, you dork, I already wrote that one. You can never overstate the obvious, tho.

David Raposa, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm writing an article on Slayer.

james, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh! I should offer my thanks and praise to the Ned as well, for actually soliciting (!) work from me, when I wasn't even willing to publish myself. He is a fine gentlemen (even if his puns are downright ass). (Inine, that is.)

David Raposa, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Feh! I revel in my intentional groaners, ya rat bastard. That aside, thanks. :-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh no! And he is so "talented" and "literary". He will be sorely missed in more ways than one. This has just ruined my evening!
