This is the Lovefilm tube map of films shot near these stations. Not only is it seemingly inaccurate in places (Sliding Doors was in West London surely, and since when did the Bakerloo line go to Stevenage?

Can we add to it? Can I make the suggestion of Repulsion for South Ken?

N_RQ, Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

in Metroland it's hard to tell which stations they filmed scenes at Christian Bale appears to walk over what looks like the Ruislip station bridge but it could be Chesham or Chalfont & Latimer. i am going to Chesham in a couple of weeks and will report back.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

Yes, 2001 was MGM at Borehamwood as my mum was working there at the time. There is a photo of my brother on the big wheel walky round thing wot the stewardess walkys round. It does not show the massive hydralics to make it work which is a pity.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

CEASE AND DESIST!!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Let's build London! (With bits from films)

Pete this is YOUR THREAD!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

Blow up was sooo shot in chelsea

lukey (Lukey G), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah. Well there wasn''t a tube map that time.

I should tell more tales about my mums time at MGM. That nice man Patrick Magooghan and his tippinmg of the hat, and David Niven flirting with the typing pool.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

Was Sunday Bloody Sunday filmed in Lewisham? According to Mike Jones on that other thread its mostly Greenwich.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

'blow up' was shot all over, but the park is where lovefilm sez it is.

NR_Q, Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Ealing Broadway: All these by Ealing studios

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

That tube map is crazying my BRANE.

I hope they do extend the Bakerloo line like that, it would be great. But another stop between London Bridge and Elephant seems a bit much.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

Crouch End films don't fit on this map by virtue of not having a Tube, innit?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

we shd have remembered passport to pimlico anyway

early hitch
the serpentine (or is it battersea park boating pond) in the one w.the bomb
dome of st pauls in blackmail?
frenzy = covent garden
the theatre in 39 steps

must be more: my mind v.fuzzy

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

'the hornsey film': muswell hill, crouch end, um, hornsey

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Bowling for Columbine: Warren St Station

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

'the man who knew too much' ('34) has bits in whitechapel. a lot of his early stuff was at gainsborough in islington. the cinema in 'sabotage' is (i think) now a petrol station on upper street.

NR_Q, Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

2 bits from imdb about an american werewolf in london :

The London Underground station used in the film is Aldwych. It was closed in 1994. It is kept in pristine condition and is available to rent as a large film set for period dramas, pop videos etc. Other films have also used this station.

The tube station used in the film is (or is dressed as) Tottenham Court Road, Northern Line branch. The sign for Tottenham Court Road can clearly be seen in some shots.

they can't both be right!

piscesboy, Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

it's all abt the tunnels under london piscesboy!!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

hornsey does have a tube!

its called Turnpike Lane

hornseylido (gareth), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

mark s have i met you? its all about the tunnels under london????

piscesboy, Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

um maybe we met i don't know?

all i meant wz you can walk from aldwych to TCR by underground tunnels w/o having to board a train (probably), so it isn't nec a error!!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

the thing says "dressed as" TCR: probably they shot the actual tube bits at aldwych and street-level exteriors at TCR.

NR_Q, Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

no no its just that i regularly have conversations with people about those *other* tunnels :

http://freespace.virgin.net/roy.smith5/citadel.htm

new thread!

piscesboy, Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

shaun of the dead also had scenes in highgate

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

maybe you overheard my voice through a psychic wormhole?

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Oh, god, you're not Subterranea Britannica, are you?

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

waynes world 2 - picadilly circus...

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

the tunnels thread must be built!!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

heck no, but it *is* spooky. allegedly if u hang around the one by the ICA for any length of time, someone official looking will come and ask u what u think u are doing there.

piscesboy, Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

I swear there is a tunnels under London thread... either Ed or I would have started it...

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

there's lots of mentions — piscesboy 2002!! — but no actual dedicated thread kate

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

until now!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

i read that as 'filmed in aldwych which was made to look like TCR for the occasion'

there's an old b&w police file, the blue lamp or something, with a car chase that ends up in White City Stadium. (the Blue Lamp, yes: http://www.famouslocations.com/movies/bluelampthe1949.php)

http://www.malory.com/md/shepherd.htm
"ROCK BAND The Who originated in West London. Shepherd's Bush was used as the location for the film of Quadrophenia."

The Italian Job features Wormwood Scrubs (um, don't know nearest tube station)

er, The Arsenal Stadium Mystery (would that be woolwich? it's very old)
