Crufts season - this is my chance to make Kev pay for all the football he watches.

I love it, a feast of dogs - I come from a right doggie family, my gran bred chihuahuas and my mum has had loads of different breeds herself. Kev doesn't want a dog but the brainwashing started last night. He was pretending to read the paper but kept glancing up and saying 'I'd have one of those...'

No doggie peeps? No?

I'm also trying to convince the mister of the greatness of dogs, but he is not easy to get round. We nearly adopted one a few weeks ago -it didn't happen, but that was a one-off and despite the fact there are a couple of "free to good home" ads up in Tesco, he isn't interested in a dog he doesn't already know.

Perhaps making him watch Crufts will change his mind.

Problem was that ugly wee thing that won last year (or was it the year before) that looked like Dougal with a pug face, isn't really representative of what sort of dog I want. And isn't a good advert for "dogs are excellent" type convincing, because it was a stupid looking ugly thing.

Yeah that's one ugly dog. And what's with the whippets? They're too highly strung and terrified looking. They vibrate with stress. I'm liking the Fox Terriers.

I was all about beagles until someone near us got a King Charles puppy - it is the cutest thing ever. (I had a beagle then a yellow lab when I was growing up).

An Old English Sheepdog has just walked past my living room window. It is teh cuteness.

I want a dog!

Rumpsy - How did I know this was gonna be one of your threads? If you think you are gonna engage me in Crufts talk at the pub later you are sadly mistaken!

If you try I shall talk about my Wabbit....(which we got instead of a dog and to whom my anti-pet bloke has since be heard to say - when you die, we're getting a dog!)

smee (smee), Friday, 11 March 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

Beagles are tops. My last dog was part beagle but everyone said he looked like a big Jack Russell. Toy dogs tonight - don't think there's any chance of convincing my man to like Chinese Cresteds.

Smee, I seen Sam on sunday and my eyes filled up. Do you think it was worth swapping him for Kev?

My dog's uncle won "Best of Breed" at Crufts several years ago!

He looks just like this :

Aw! He looks so sad, yet wise. What a lovely dog.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 11 March 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

He's a cutie indeed.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Friday, 11 March 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

i watched it last night, and the preview show on sunday. most people don't understand why i'd want to watch dogs running around on screen, but i love it.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 11 March 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

All the afghans running round looked great. As if they were running in slow motion.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Friday, 11 March 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

i was sad that the bloodhound didn't place in the hound group. i thought it looked great, whereas i didn't see what was so amazing about the whippet.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 11 March 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

Rumpsy - you didn't swap him for Kev, you swaped his owner - remember him? Looks a bit like Shrek, only with worse teeth....

You can get another wee doggy, you can't get another wee Kev ;0)

That dog looks very distinguished.

If I ever get a dog again I would like another Labrador, a Chocolate brow one this time I think - I'm so common and unimaginative.

smee (smee), Friday, 11 March 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

Labs are sensible pooches. I still like dalmations, mum said they are like stoopid playful puppies all their lives.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Friday, 11 March 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

I'll have to remember and watch it this weekend. Used to have a lovely black lab/collie cross called ted but he went to the big kennel in the sky.

I have this unspoken agreement with my dog that is basically please come back when i need to get you back on the leash, even though i know you love ignoring me so much and rebelling against me and telling me to go fuck myself in dog language! But it does actually work about 90% of the time by some miracle!

calzino, Sunday, 8 March 2020 00:28 (five years ago)

The crufts announcers are delightful when they get a dog who doesn't play by the competition's rules.
