mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 March 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

I have the ILE New Answers bookmarked. I scroll down all of today's threads (and bits of yesterdays, depends) and see if there's anything that interests me.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

1 - bookmark bar
2 - ILX frontpage
3 - no
4 - no, in fact I usually forget I even made them unless theyre at the top of the page
5 - Im only happy when it rains

LeCoq (LeCoq), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

I start with the ILM new answers, quick skim down to see if theres anything I rate/can help with/can react to, but mostly go to ILE.

I don't search my own name, as shoutouts to me are few but not zero (So I missed one from September until last week).

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

1) I type out ilx.p3r.net/ every morning.
2) and click-through to ILE
3) nobody ever shouts out to me. seriously!
4) I go down the list for anything that's interesting. generally, but not always, I find my own threads interesting.
5) yep.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

LeCoq, I feel like we should be better friends than we are by virtue of being coposters.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

RSS feeds for ILBooks, ILCooking, and TITTWISt. At work I type in "ilx.p3r.net" since www.ilxor.com no longer works. I generally read everything on those three and a few other threads on ILE. Every once in a while, when I have time, I check out ILComics (which is probably the best thing on ILX) and ILM and ILF (which are both mostly meh) and the Moderator boards.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, the Moderator boards. It's like being backstage.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

I blogview the ILE new questions to see if anything interesting has turned up, then go to the new answers and start from the bottom seeing if there are any new replies on threads I was following.

Then I look at the ILM new answers. Then I check the mod boards to see what FITES!!! I have missed.

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

1) i removed my toolbar link in the hope it would make me look less often - not really worked. i get to ILX from a page i knocked up displaying all my favourite URLs

2) the index or ILE New Answers

3) no

4) rarely, i'll just go by the New Answers list

5) yep

i always read ILE THEN ILM, never the other way around

Sven Bastard (blueski), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

My ILX routine:

a) type http://i[TAB]p[TAB]n[TAB] in the address bar - that takes me to the ILE New Answers page

b) go down to the bottom and scroll up, clicking on red threads that were vaguely interesting, or threads I've started that have been updated. Or, new threads that sound vaguely interesting.

I don't bother searching for anything - definitely not for myself

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

1) Bookmark
2) ILE New Answers
3) Who'd do that?
4) I rarely start them, so when I do, it's nice to see how they're doing (generally quite badly)
5) Aye

Matt (Matt), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

If there's a thread from the previous day which I remember well enough to actually be interested in it, I might search for it, if it's not still hanging on at the bottom of the new answers thread. Otherwise, I count it as gone.

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Monday, 14 March 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

1) How do you get here on a morning/first visit of a day?
By using the handmade bookmark in the toolbar under the address bar in Firefox

2) Which page do you start on?
ILE New Answers

3) Do you search your own name to see if anyone's shouted you out?
Nope

4) Do you search your own started threads?
If I remember and if they hadn't already died a horrible death, I might scroll down to find them, or even click "all updated threads".

5) Revisit Threads in 'purple'?
No, only for reference

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 14 March 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

ILM New Answers bookmarked. Read and post then flip to
ILE New Answers. Read and (less often) post. go to
ILBooks maybe every 3rd or 4th visit unless I've posted recently.

Then I try to avoid flipping endlessly back & forth between ILM & ILE instead of getting down to work.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Monday, 14 March 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

I have RSS feed for mod request and mod discussion board so I check those first thing to see if any requests have popped up since I was asleep or whatever. If I have time, then I do ilx.

I type i l [down arrow] which pulls up ile new answers. Then it's pretty random, bouncing back and forth between ile and ilm. I post sometimes on I Love Cooking and lurk on I Love Comics.

I think I searched for my name once after I spent two weeks in rome. Oh and when I was without internet forever right after I moved in august.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 14 March 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

Bookmark to front page > either ILE or ILM depending on mood > read "purple" threads or any new ones that look interesting AND short > read all of ILC > sink to morass of ILX for rest of day

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 14 March 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

I read freakytrigger, then click the ilxor.com link, open ilm and ile in tabs next to each other. Generally check purple, excelsior first usually. Also have the ilm rss, but I barely use that.

lundy fastnet irish sea (cis), Monday, 14 March 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

1) How do you get here on a morning/first visit of a day?

Firefox remembers ILX. So I just type il and he knows what I am craving for.

2) Which page do you start on?

Mostly the new answers page (ILM).

3) Do you search your own name to see if anyone's shouted you out?

Rarely if ever.

4) Do you search your own started threads?

I don't start threads. Used to but gave up.

5) Revisit Threads in 'purple'?

Yeah, all the time.

nathalie barefoot in the head (stevie nixed), Monday, 14 March 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

1) Bookmarks
2) ILM New Answers, then ILE New Questions, then ILE New Answers
3) This has never happened, so no.
4) No
5) Mostly yes.

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Monday, 14 March 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

at the moment, i have to go to pumpkin publog, click on the lin kto steve ms mushroom link, then get in that way
i used to write ilxor.com and do that

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 14 March 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

1) How do you get here on a morning/first visit of a day?
Bookmarked at work. Sadly, it's my homepage at home.

2) Which page do you start on?
I start on the ILE new answers page and scroll down, opening threads in new tabs. As I type this, I have eight tabs that I haven't gotten to yet.

3) Do you search your own name to see if anyone's shouted you out?
No. Until I change my name to Perry Plains or Pleasant Raggett, I doubt that I'll ever have the need to do that.

4) Do you search your own started threads?
Yes. We named the dog Veruca, by the way. Turns out that not only is she adorable, but she's a little shit as well.

5) Revisit Threads in 'purple'?
Like the Whaddya You Look Like threads? Yeah.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

Haha, the ILX front page is my homepage at home, too!!

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

I have ILB and ILE New Answers bookmarked. I check ILB first usually, as it's more manageable, then ILE. I check threads that I was reading yesterday if they're still on New Answers, then click on anything new that looks interesting. Repeat throughout day. I hardly ever search, but I do use Random a lot when I'm really bored.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

I often cheek ILB or ILCooking first for the same reason. Particularly if I've been away from the computer for a few days, it's all a bit much otherwise.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 14 March 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

1. ILX starting page is my homepage!
2. Click on ILE new answers
3. Look at the threads I last posted or posted on, see if anyone has responded to my witty/intelligent insights. Talk about Star Wars or robots or West London.
4. Click on link to display of new questions.
5. Post some more crap.
6. Go to ILC.
7. Go to Noize Board
8. Go to ILM
9. Go to moderator board

jel -- (jel), Monday, 14 March 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

Bookmark ILE New Answers. Might pick out a couple of threads first - I won't explain why for every example, as some are for private reasons, but the social planning ones often get this treatment too. Scroll down to about when I last caught up (maybe have to Show All), read the threads that interest me from there. Once I've got to the top, I might refresh and catch up on what's happened since, and then go and do the same on, in order, ILM, ILBooks, ILComics and ILWWE - those four mostly just get one check per day, whereas I might refresh and repeat the process on ILE many times.

No, I never search for my name, and rarely give special attention to the infrequent threads I start, unless they fall into that first category above for some reason.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 14 March 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 March 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

1) How do you get here on a morning/first visit of a day? Bookmark/GoogleSearch/History/Dropdown?

ILX is usually in my bookmarks toolbar in Firefox.

2) Which page do you start on?

The main one, and then I read ILC while I'm drinking coffee and waking up, and then ILE if I finish with ILC. ILM a couple times a week if there's not a specific thread I'm following.

3) Do you search your own name to see if anyone's shouted you out?

No. ... what a creepy idea.

4) Do you search your own started threads?

I don't start many threads; on ILC, it wouldn't be necessary to search for them, on ILE I'm sure I'd notice if it had new answers or whatever.

5) Revisit Threads in 'purple'?

Which ones are purple? (None of mine are purple, for colorblindness reasons.) I don't use the later feature, if this is about that. If I started reading a thread, I usually keep reading it, but as far as first-ILX-of-the-day type habits, it depends on how much it's grown. I skip long threads unless they're joke threads (Rowan Atkinson as James Bond, etc) or recurring ones like Excelsior.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 14 March 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

1) How do you get here on a morning/first visit of a day? Bookmark/GoogleSearch/History/Dropdown?

If I'm starting up from "scratch" (i.e. ILX isn't already loaded up into my browser), I just type out the URL (it's easy to remember!). Otherwise, if I've already got that tab open, I just click on the "Reload current page" button of the index I want to visit first.

2) Which page do you start on?

If it's the "from scratch" first visit, the main ILX page. If I'm just working from the reload, it's always ILE's New Answers page.

3) Do you search your own name to see if anyone's shouted you out?

Never. First off, my name's not searchable in the database, and secondly, I don't really bother with doing that sort of thing.

4) Do you search your own started threads?

Maybe several months down the line, if I need refreshing on something said therein, or if I'm compelled to e.g. "what was the first thread you started?"-style questions, but... I don't bother with that either. Heck, I've started so few threads on my own that it's not worth the bother.

5) Revisit Threads in 'purple'?

If they've been updated since the last time I visited them and if I'm interested in them, sure, absolutely.

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 14 March 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

ILX is bookmarked. I check out the New Answers on ILE first before perusing ILM, ILB(ooks) and AAD (where no-one posts anymore anyway) and sometimes the Pickle Bored.

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 14 March 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Oh well that's just charming.

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

zinguist (cozwn), Monday, 11 May 2009 20:23 (sixteen years ago)

1) How do you get here on a morning/first visit of a day? Bookmark/GoogleSearch/History/Dropdown?
bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar

2) Which page do you start on?
"Boards", then I go through ILE, ILM, Noise, IP3, Drunk, Freud, Cape, 7C7, ILTMI, Comp, Books, Cars, Games, Style, IMM, Protest!, IRE, Church, Player's Club, ILP

3) Do you search your own name to see if anyone's shouted you out?
No

4) Do you search your own started threads?
No, if they're near the top of new answers, I'll check and see what's been added.

5) Revisit Threads in 'purple'?
???

snoball, Monday, 11 May 2009 20:30 (sixteen years ago)

1) How do you get here on a morning/first visit of a day? Bookmark/GoogleSearch/History/Dropdown?
google search
2) Which page do you start on?
usually ILE, ILM, Games, TMI, Noise, IP3
3) Do you search your own name to see if anyone's shouted you out?
I've done this before. Unfortunately I can't search the secret threads/polls where people can talk behind your back (my only gripe about ILX). One day you find out you are overrated, the next day that thread magically disappears. Where do these threads go mods? I would ask in the moderator request section but I'm inexplicably banned from there.
4) Do you search your own started threads?
occasionally to see if there are more answers
5) Revisit Threads in 'purple'?
yeah, I revisit threads I've previously clicked. Sometimes upon revisit I wonder why I clicked that thread in the first place

Mulvaney, Monday, 11 May 2009 20:48 (sixteen years ago)

Ha, yeah, I always click on the purple ones going "why was I posting here" only to reveal that I wasn't and why one earth did I care to read anyone's insights on Russel Brand.

SQUIRREL WITH A PEOPLE FACE (╓abies), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 15:29 (sixteen years ago)

At work i no longer bookmark, in case my machine gets hauled off somewhere and my favorites will be viewable by the 'man'

so open google, type ilx, it's the third link down.

open site new answers, which shows me ILE, ILG, ILP, ILC.
occasionally view the mods board.

i have black background stylesheet, so no purple for me.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

I am a strictly classic-style user.

SQUIRREL WITH A PEOPLE FACE (╓abies), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 16:15 (sixteen years ago)

I see what's going on on ILX about once every 3 weeks. That takes about a minute, then I go again.
