We have no idea what it means. Are they going to be like the 'efficiency experts' in Office Space? Are we all going to be interviewed for our jobs? Is it just about their practice? Should we kiss up or just kiss the internet goodbye???

Have any of y'all experienced this?

Whatever it is they actually end up doing, they undoubtedly promised that their services will result in the firm's partners making so much money that their clothes and hair will begin to smell like money, their complexions will become the color of money and their spouses will stop harassing them to make still more money. This is what consultants do. They also play with dolls.

I once worked in the IT department of a much larger company. IT was considered to be a "problem" department and so consultants were hired to come in and reorganize things.

Even though I was technically part of the IT department, I worked in another department and really didn't interact much with the "problem" but I still had to be interviewed, sit in on "team-building" meetings and all the usual B.S. After a couple months of this I bailed on the company and looked for another job.

five years pass...

I once worked in the IT department of a much larger company. IT was considered to be a "problem" department and so consultants were hired to come in and reorganize things.

Ha! Five years after I wrote that, my current workplace is bringing a consultant in tomorrow. Other programmers were supposedly told to "put on a unified happy face" but no one told me about it.
