Yes indeed, it is Miss Marianna LCL's birthday on Friday. Hooray!

She would like to have drinks, and not by herself. These will occur at the Big Chill Bar, Dray Walk (off Brick Lane) from After Work pm.

She would also like to go dancing afterwards, and not by herself. This will occur at either Cargo (Annie! Glimmer Twins!) or Plastic People (Optimo!).

Everyone - join us!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Is DJ Twitch going to be in London?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

JD

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure he used to be DJ.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

is the pub thing going to last until plastic people time?

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

I would suspect so...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

Probably. There is food at that bar btw, inc tapas, so it can meet dinner needs too...

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

It better.

But Annie is in London too often - thought we were saving for her jam with ESG?

Nevermind, the point is, it's Mari's day!

BARMS, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

There is no such concept as "Annie is in [my home town] too often". But why must she insist on CLASHING?

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

and electro-clashing at that

i am hear all weak

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Sorry Marzipanna, won't be able to make it :(

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

I will be late to the pub. There's a certain sweater vest that hasn't received an airing this week.

BARMS, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

Yes, do come!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

Hey missy M, will be there. Mmm socialising.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Apparently, we can extend this invitation to people of our choosing (hey Matt...).

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

i shall be out. celebrating/commiserating...something

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

I should think I will be along but don't worry, I will not be intending to join the cute young people for this new-fangled clubbing stuff after.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

If I've managed to shake off the extreme death flu by then, I will try to come along. At least for the pubbing.

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

this is TONIGHT Y'ALL!

I will be along later I think - I need need need to get my hair cut, and also to go home first.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 18 March 2005 07:52 (twenty years ago)

I think I might be feeling well enough for this. If Shoreditch can stand the brightness of my ultra-paisley shirt!

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Friday, 18 March 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

I'm in a destroying state of sleep deprivation today, so if I do end up missing the pub, myself, and perhaps some mates, will head on to Plastic People for 10-11.

But I'm guessing I won't stand such brightness from a shirt.

BARMS, Friday, 18 March 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

We have seen the legendary Stevem 'Geogaddi' shirt, Barms. Kate'll have to do pretty well to beat that. Also it might be worth you getting in touch with one of us to make sure we are definitely going to Plastic People. After listening to Ronan rave about them last night I am up for some Glimmer Twins action as well and therefore happy to go either way.

I think I am on the verge of coming down with extreme death flu so I'm a little worried about going to the usual excess tonight. I'm sure I'll have changed my mind by this evening though. I'll be there from about 8.30.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 March 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

Isn't it helpful to just announce which club you've chosen here? I'm happy to go wherever Mari goes, but OTOH, the potential presence of my RL mates vis-a-vis club choices would render the non-Mariannas among you irrelevant.

(Mari, gmail me your number if you can today)

BARMS, Friday, 18 March 2005 09:51 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure I'm going clubbing, I was just talking about pubbing. After all, I have been roped in on an A to Z Treasure Hunt quite early tomorrow morning, plus I'm not sure how much I want to test my health.

This is a pretty ugly shirt. I mean, it's not *that* bright I suppose. It's not even my brightest. But it is one of my ugliest. Purple, turquoise, mustard and avocado greens. Actually I think I've worn it to FAPs before. But usually under a sweater or something.

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Friday, 18 March 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

Is it laundry day, then?

BARMS, Friday, 18 March 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

No, I'm just sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and figured that a REALLY BRIGHT SHIRT might cheer me up into wanting to go out.

Man, I thought there was a thread about The Culture Show. I'm still upset about missing the Damien Hirst segment. He looked like he had really good hair and looked supercute in the preview last week.

(Yeah, I know, I said NO! MORE! CONCEPTUAL! ARTISTS!!! EVER!!!!! but I'd be willing to make an exception for Damien Hirst. He's lovely.)

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Friday, 18 March 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

Get thee to the Crush of Shame thread!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 March 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

I would if I could find a damn picture of how cute he looked in the preview, dammit! The photo they have on the Culture Show website is old and he has bad hair and clearly not from their interview. :-(

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Friday, 18 March 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, yeah, uh, pub pub, drink drink, Shoreditch Shoreditch, club club, etc.

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Friday, 18 March 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

That new Underworld single has been in my head all day as well...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 March 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

Yay yay yay yay! I'm looking forward to this quite a bit and Barima you HAVE to come to the pub. Have a nap over lunch. :)

As for the young people's dancing afterwards, I'd always assumed that people would split up and go to whichever event they'd prefer to attend. Personally I'm leaning towards going to Cargo (The Glimmers! Annie! I'm grinning just thinking about it!), given the Our Disco mailing list email I just received warned that it's likely to get super-packed, super-early. Although if I'm naughty and drink far too much this evening there's every chance that my "I'm drunk and need go home, right now!" personal steering alarm might take over and send me back to Highgate.

Wow, I can't wait to see Kate's shirt. Is it so bright that if we took photos of it the picture would show nothing but lens flare?

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 18 March 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

(God, why did I big up my bright shirt, anyway, now all anyone is going to say to me when they see me is "that's not that ugly, or that bright")

Oh, and happy birthday, Marianna!

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Friday, 18 March 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

I may be unofficially celebrating my own b-day tonight because I've made absolutely no plans whatsoever for it next week (and no, Poptimism won't count). As for Cargo, Annie's back on April 30 with ESG to boot (my workmate here has offered to order my ticket for me), and the venue (and crowd, going on experience) isn't that conducive to dancing. Maybe it should just come down to who's cheaper.

BARMS, Friday, 18 March 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

yes but Barima, the April 30 version of Annie clashes with Vitalic! so it is NOW OR NEVER. I'll be pushing Marianna Cargo-wards, I want to check out the Glimmers too.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 18 March 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

So where the heck is Dray Walk? Streetmap has no clue. Whereabouts does it go off Brick Lane and on which side?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 18 March 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

Errr... I thought it was somewhere in the big Trumans Brewary complex. Am I incorrect or merely out of date?

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 18 March 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

yes but Barima, the April 30 version of Annie clashes with Vitalic! so it is NOW OR NEVER

TS: Seeing ESG for the 1st time vs seeing Vitalic for the 2nd

Duh, of course ESG win!

BARMS, Friday, 18 March 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

hello everyone. some of us went to plastic people. the others went to cargo. how was cargo?

charltonlido (gareth), Saturday, 19 March 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

Cargo was good! Once we'd finally got in, I'm not entirely sure how we did it as they appeared to have CANCELLED THE GUESTLIST WTF, I think we sort of stood there and shouted at them until they gave in. We missed most of Annie's set but the bits we did catch were cool, and the Glimmers were awesome. The bottle of wine kind of killed me this morning though :(

"Hollaback Girl" was played!

how was Plastic People?

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 19 March 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

SUGAR, SUGAR

Rockin' all over the world! Some dude and I danced off after he gave me a free whisky, then we got crushed to death and Ch4r and V1v decided to depart to escape death. Then we danced a lot more and then I had to sit down for an hour to take it all in. Then Lauren joined me and we spent a lot of time slagging off a girl in a vertical lined dress that took up 6 cubic feet wherever she went and her dork mate who was wearing a mondo gross red shirt (worn open) with a sequinned dog on the back, combined with the world's poofiest slashed jeans and I convinced Matt to take his photo and his mag-jobbing wrinkly g/f got upset until I told her we weren't even shooting her (so to speak), the silly moo. So we eventually got out at 3.30 and I saw the trade doors at Cargo were open but no one came out except for some random drunk dude who wished me goodnight.

Oh, and some dude approached me when I was queueing and asked me what the greatest nation in the world was ("2 guesses") and I answered "Latveria" and proceeded to tell him what a bad motherfucker Dr Doom is ("coming to a cinema near you this summer") and he gets all "Shut up kid, the answer is DO-NATION!" and holds out a paper cup but I told him I was all changed-out.

YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO FIGHT YOUR OWN DAMN WAR

Traitors.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 19 March 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

Isn't it that Dude from Charmed and Nip/Tuck playing Doctor Doom in the film?

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 19 March 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

Traitors

:( i apologise for my awful 'directions', that area still manages to confuse me. sorry we got separated. £8 to get in tho, fookin ell...

Sven Bastard (blueski), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

Plastic People was great. A bit too packed to dance maybe but my friends carved out their own niche which I then bought the ILX massive into. What was that surf guitar version of The Model? I need that record.

The sequined dog will be posted soon but I appear to have left my camera in a flat in Shoreditch. Arse. The bloke didn't believe me when I told him I was shooting an about town piece for Edgy Style Mag, sadly.

There was also a big argument in the toilets about which Batman film was the worst. I think Batman & Robin won through fairly clearly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

sun ra did a batman album, under another name. i think i may have told someone this last night

charltonlido (gareth), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

i weigh 150 pounds

charltonlido (gareth), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

The FAP beforehand was typically great. Good to see Greg, Abby and Trish again, even if I didn't speak to any of them as much as I'd have liked to.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

My highlight of last night = Kate leaving early "to get back in time for Nathan Barley". While standing outside a trendy bar in the middle of Shoreditch.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 20 March 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Wow, I can't believe how much fun I had! Thanks to everyone who showed up and said nice things - you all rock too, too much.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Sunday, 20 March 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

aw i am sad i missed it. thing is i'd started drinking at three and then was with co-workers on ludgate circus and before i knew it it was half nine and i was battered and there was a busstop outside the pub to my house...

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Sunday, 20 March 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

this was great fun! I kind of didn't stop drinking until this morning, I am utterly broken now.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 20 March 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

i like things.

lets go out again, and take drugs

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 21 March 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

beautiful people are kind of great

charltonido (gareth), Monday, 21 March 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

i thought it was plastic people

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 March 2005 09:11 (twenty years ago)

Gareth, we were the only beautiful people there! My heart didn't skip a beat at the sight of non-ILXors all night. You must have been on drugs.

BARMS, Monday, 21 March 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

Ha-HEM. I didn't leave because I wanted to watch Nathan Barley! I left because of the last dying gasps of the Extreme Death Flu and hunger and exhaustion (OK, sure, The Spy dragged me off and filled me with beigels but it wasn't enough). In fact I didn't even get to see Nathan Barley at all because of the stupid bus. Humph. Though I'm sure I saw a bloke on Brick Lane with a tiny hat.

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Monday, 21 March 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

Damn, I'm hairy these days. That was a fun evening in London's trendy London. Nice curry afterwards as well.

lock robster (robster), Monday, 21 March 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

This is a step forward! Normally there are like 20 photos of an event that I was at, and I am completely absent from any of them. The back of my head appears in two of these, hurrah!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 21 March 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

three

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 March 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

oh yes - it isn't that I don't know the back of my own head. I think my work monitor is set too dark, so I failed to notice.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

its true, about the lack of beautiful people. i was speaking ,perhaps hopefully, of next time

charltonido (gareth), Monday, 21 March 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

Frankly it was so dark in there I couldn't tell.

yes! hence omg! my brain is struggling with the concept of simultaneous photography.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 21 March 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

In the pub this lunchtime, Markelby was all "so then, who was that blonde you were holding hands with in Marianna's birthday photos?"

Which completely threw me until I came back, looked at this thread and realised he was talking about the pitbull shirt guy. I'm not sure whether to be flattered or offended.
