I rather liked Grey's Anatomy. What about you?

EComplex (EComplex), Monday, 28 March 2005 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it was ok. Not great or anything -- the "I slept with the boss" bit was something of a contrivance... a SEXY contrivance!

But it has Sandra Oh, and she's awesome.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 28 March 2005 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Agreed. I didn't mind it as an opening gambit. The trick now (as it were) is what they do with it. Long term relationship? Or does he sleep with ALL the interns. That would be interesting.

EComplex (EComplex), Monday, 28 March 2005 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Except for Katherine Heigl, I really couldn't care less.

57 7th (calstars), Monday, 28 March 2005 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmmm. I'd'a thought more people would have seen this given its impressive ratings. ILX has a sozial life on Sundays Shocka!

EComplex (EComplex), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

do we really need another hospital show? there aren't enough law firm shows on tv.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I walked in and my wife already had it on, so I watched the last half, and the whole time I kept trying to remember which show it was (Scrubs? A rerun of Chicago Hope?). Then at the end I realized it was that new show. It was OK, but it really did seem interchangable with every other hospital drama ever.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

sandrah oh is one of the best and most emotionally complex actresses working today, and she deserves all the success in the world--she was the best t hing in last night, in sideways and she was miles and miles ahead of everyone else in this dull, by the rote and rather generic pos.

i will watch it for her, and hope she inds something more brilliant.

anthony, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Bad, but not as cliched or similar to other shows as I expected. Could do without the hunk doctor, nebbish little guy, EVIL but tenderhearted boss (black like Dr. Benton even), driven Asian woman, etc. characters, they're all completely stock and boring. But I don't recall another show focusing on the med-school aspects quite so much.

Sandra Oh, the main intern woman, Katherine Heigl - hotttttt

I really love this show, but feel sort of bad about it. Aren't the characters pretty adolescent?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:29 (twenty years ago)

i like grey's anatomy. but i'll fucking watch anything.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:35 (twenty years ago)

my wife still watches it, has sort of chosen it as her one weekly show because she likes to have something to watch on sundays, so i end up seeing it a lot. totally pro forma network drama, competent enough i guess. i kind of enjoy it, but nothing about it seems distinctive.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:37 (twenty years ago)

(otoh it's kind of comforting to find a show still willing to be a pro forma network show and not a diluted HBO-wannabe)

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:39 (twenty years ago)

yeah, you know, it's watchable in an ER kinda way. watching ER this season, i was so surprised to find out just how watchable that show still is! pretty amazing after 40 years. Leguizamo is a hoot.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:46 (twenty years ago)

god i forgot er was still on. i think clooney was still on it the last time i saw it.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:49 (twenty years ago)

i think i like that the integration of the worlds, while not at all realistic, also isn't unbelievable or fantasy-oriented. it's post-mcbeal.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:51 (twenty years ago)

and, of course, sandra oh

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:54 (twenty years ago)

yeah, well

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:58 (twenty years ago)

the uniformity of the attractiveness is pretty scary

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 9 January 2006 03:59 (twenty years ago)

The female leads are all gorgeous, but I don't think I could force myself to sit through an entire episode.

ER is watchable like Cops is watchable, it's a train-wreck that barely makes sense, but enough is going on that you don't have to really understand anything. And, of course, Maura Tierney and Parminder Nagra.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Monday, 9 January 2006 06:12 (twenty years ago)

mmm, maura tierney. foxiest 40-year-old on tv.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 6 February 2006 04:17 (twenty years ago)

this episode was completely ridiculous but pretty entertaining. and CLIFFHANGER!!!

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 6 February 2006 04:25 (twenty years ago)

i missed the begining but i'm sooo pissed about the too be continued part, which i discovered halfway through thanks to imdb's listing of the episode as "part i". arghhH!

tehresa (tehresa), Monday, 6 February 2006 04:28 (twenty years ago)

i say, bring on the ridiculousness.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 6 February 2006 04:29 (twenty years ago)

What the heck was that code black that they kept talking about in the Super Bowl commercials? I don't have a TV, so I haven't seen any episodes of it, but I just watched the Super Bowl at a friend's house, and there was a Grey's Anatomy commercial about every 3 seconds.

lyra (lyra), Monday, 6 February 2006 04:45 (twenty years ago)

code black = unexploded bazooka shell inside a chest cavity!

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 6 February 2006 04:50 (twenty years ago)

i gotta admit, i watched this just to find out what a "code black" was!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 6 February 2006 04:52 (twenty years ago)

Decent show. Totally Ally McBeal, though. Like whoah.

so wrong, its so right.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 6 February 2006 05:06 (twenty years ago)

The music at the end was going too far. Is/was Christina Ricci a regular, or is this a one-off?

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Monday, 6 February 2006 05:13 (twenty years ago)

imdb only lists this episode for her, and i think her character was a paramedic, so she was probably just doing a guest spot

tehresa (tehresa), Monday, 6 February 2006 05:17 (twenty years ago)

code black = unexploded bazooka shell inside a chest cavity!
Eh? Seriously? Interesting story line...

lyra (lyra), Monday, 6 February 2006 05:22 (twenty years ago)

and of course, there was brain surgery going on in the next room. on the husband of one of the doctors. who was in labor at the same time. the tension! which, naturally, had to be relieved by two of the hot young doctors sneaking off to the supply room to have sex.

that must have been a fun story meeting.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 6 February 2006 05:29 (twenty years ago)

Why don't my doctors ever look like Katherine Heigl?

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Monday, 6 February 2006 05:31 (twenty years ago)

has this show gotten better since it debuted? because I saw the first two and they were fucking TERRIBLE. I expected it to get cancelled immediately.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 6 February 2006 06:32 (twenty years ago)

it hasn't gotten better or worse. it has just ambled along. i think its strength is its complete and unremarkable network-tv ordinariness. sunday night, 10 p.m., ordinary is comforting.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 6 February 2006 06:46 (twenty years ago)

(also, it a.) follows desperate housewives, which gives it a good lead-in, and b.) is a very female-centric show, which made its pairing tonigh with the super bowl kind of interesting.)

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 6 February 2006 06:48 (twenty years ago)

well they had that shower scene at the beginning and it was decidedly more 'thriller' like old school er than a normal grey's anatomy. the closest i could come to describing it is a david kelley hospital show only minus david kelley somehow ie. no quirky eccentric "characters", not as many good ideas maybe but alot less bad ideas. i think it still does well if it somehow loses the leadin (i doubt abc moves it anytime soon though), my stepmom's crazy about the show which is odd cuz it's really unremarkable, i'm trying to think of another hospital show that was this level of a hit and brought this little new to the genre.

OK, I was totally wrong before, this is the last adult network drama worth watching since the West Wing cratered and everyone else took the CSI/L&O ball and ran with it.

When I watched it before, I focused too much on the (pretty boring, often silly) relationship stuff, but it's often the funniest show on TV (Sandra Oh and the actual adults providing most of the humor)

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Monday, 27 March 2006 04:02 (twenty years ago)

and the indie-Lilith soundtrack is awesome, too.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Monday, 27 March 2006 04:04 (twenty years ago)

yeah this was the first episode i've ever seen, and i kinda liked it. also, the hunky med student and the sort of dorky sean-astin'ish one are both totally cute.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 27 March 2006 04:27 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, and sandra oh is awesome. i wonder if we're related

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 27 March 2006 04:28 (twenty years ago)

I like this show. It's quite watchable and always moves at a nice clip.

And Sandra Oh need to fuck me.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 27 March 2006 04:59 (twenty years ago)

I have watched this 3 weeks in a row. Was forced to watch it while visiting my sister, and, um, keep watching it now, even though I'm no longer speaking to my sister.
I'm not sure who everybody is (could be an excuse to resume contact with the sis), or what their relationships with one another are (don't even know who Grey is), but it's, um TEARS P0RN.
I've never watched another medical drama (well, Da Vinci's Inquest a few times, and MASH, probably), but it's not hard to see why these shows work. SOMEONE DIES EVERY WEEK!!!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 02:22 (nineteen years ago)

The Chief's niece, her boyfriend, the manager who got shot from last night have all had recurring VM roles. I think maybe the two girls who came with her from prom had been on it too.

milo z (mlp), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 02:23 (nineteen years ago)

1. Der/Mer
2. Burke/Cristina
4. Vet/Addison--George/Callie

silly plot devices, but good writing - for a while I thought they were actually going to bump off the main character.

milo z, Friday, 23 February 2007 05:10 (nineteen years ago)

Hated the latest ep but it does mean that since Meredith is at peace with her mum that there's gonna be much less of her whining from now on. I think we're now set up for a Callie-Izzy showdown, and inevitable Alex/Addison action.

Roz, Friday, 23 February 2007 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

I guess the latest tete-a-tete on the GA set is now centered around the proposed spinoff, & everyone (esp. Ms. Heigl) feeling miffed that they're not the ones getting spun.

David R., Friday, 2 March 2007 02:57 (nineteen years ago)

I would spin Ms. Heigl.

gabbneb, Friday, 16 March 2007 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

was it a sandbox thread where someone started the countdown to an Izzy-George bonefest?

milo z, Saturday, 17 March 2007 04:27 (nineteen years ago)

Christina is the only halfway tolerable character on the show nowadays!

HI DERE, Saturday, 17 March 2007 04:58 (nineteen years ago)

There's always Alex, and Meredith rapidly moving into tolerable.

milo z, Saturday, 17 March 2007 05:00 (nineteen years ago)

Bailey!

although alex seems to have taken over her role these days of calling the rest out on their drama. he's all like "woman, seriously get over yourself, i'm not that into you" and "george, you're an idiot".

Roz, Saturday, 17 March 2007 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

if this thing jumped, it's jumped way back. karev is definitely tolerable, though maybe too tolerable now. and izzie's starting to gain complexity (maybe cuz she now reminds me of a friend?) even if she still isn't the best actress.

Johnny, that is probably the single best idea I have ever heard associated with this show.

Gukbe, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:41 (seventeen years ago)

Heigl kinda kicks ass for this, although her Knocked Up dis was a little rich considering the awful rom-com she was in right afterwards.

Simon H., Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

even if it was kinda spot-on.

Maria, Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

But wait -- there's more (awful rom-com)!

The Ugly Truth is a 2009 romantic comedy starring Gerard Butler, and Katherine Heigl ... A romantically challenged morning show producer (Heigl) is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her chauvinistic correspondent (Butler) to prove his theories on relationships and her find love. His clever ploys, however lead to an unexpected result.

David R., Thursday, 12 June 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

even if it was kinda spot-on.

I can see where she was coming from, but I think the banal portraits offered up in the terrible rom-coms she stars in are considerably more toxic, so it's too bad she doesn't rail against those equally. But, you know, she still needs to get SOME work.

Simon H., Thursday, 12 June 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)

an unexpected result? could it be...love?

Maria, Thursday, 12 June 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

i think her complaint about knocked up is kind of ridiculous all things considered. of all the billion shitty romcoms out there. some of which she is in. but ya someone said that already.

s1ocki, Thursday, 12 June 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

she is a total bro for this emmy thing.

banriquit, Sunday, 15 June 2008 09:35 (seventeen years ago)

Heigl doesn't kick ass. If she's in a shit show, she's in a shit show. Shut up or get better work. I understand that if you're a struggling actress you take what you can get but hey even Al Pacino doesn't regret SimOne, its a 'learning experience' just move on.
As for Grey's I only really loved it for the brief time that Denny was on, he was beautiful, witty, charming and like a white Penelope Cruz-less Javier Bardem.

VeronaInTheClub, Sunday, 15 June 2008 10:45 (seventeen years ago)

The Emmy thing is seriously passive aggressive.

Melissa W, Sunday, 15 June 2008 10:48 (seventeen years ago)
