buying baseball tickets-- specifically comerica park

hello...ok, thinking about going to a ball game on my trip back home. the cubs are all sold out, but the tigers have tickets available. but the choices for areas of seats are crazy. there's 15 different options, and i'm only ruling out the ones that are over $40 (although cheaper would be great, if that would be ok) does anyone have a suggestion for what area i should be looking for?

i'm a small-time baseball fan, going more for the atmosphere and to see the park, and to have a fun all american day out. if that makes a difference.

I second this thread, even if it's unlikely Sgs and I will make it to a game, as there aren't any teams within 200 miles of Housatonic, MA.

Well, I was there a couple of times last summer, but I don't specifically remember where we sat -- all I know is that they were the cheapest seats available. A good time was had both times, though it was still no match for the bleachers at Tiger Stadium. Have fun, Colette!

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

cool, that's good to know that even the cheap seats are ok!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

actually...thinking bleachers or maybe the 'RF grandstand', whatever that means. although, first week of may, am i better off getting seats that are possibly sheltered?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

It might be a good idea. My seats were in an unsheltered area and the weather turned out to be nice both times, but it's always a gamble in Michigan.

there might be some minor league teams, i dunno.

colette, check out the detroit tigers web site. there should be a seating chart for comerica in the tickets section.

(and click on an ad or something so maura, tracer hand, and myself can get paid)

(okay, okay, you don't have to do that, just kidding)

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

u at work right now stence?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

nope.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

oh. well i'm on 1-9 2nite. listen colette, "RF grandstand" means right field, and grandstands are OFTEN covered, but what stencil said about the seating chart, that'll hook you up. i'd personally see how close i could get to the field along the first- or third-base line, but i've never been to that park.

you could also try a minor-league game, which would be guaranteed small-time, with atmosphere the majors can't beat with a stick, no money issues, and players who probably make less than you do!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

ya brooklyn cyclones kick ass. we should go to some games, tracer.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

As a non-league football fan in the UK, I am totally up for some minor league baseball action. Should I try and search google for info on Berkshires-based teams, or can stence or someone else point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/minors/list.jsp

there's a red sox farm team in lowell, mass. i thought there was one in pittsfield but i'm not seeing it.

I have discovered that the NEW BRITAIN ROCK CATS will be playing at home to the PORTLAND SEA DOGS on the 3rd, 4th and 5th May! Hurray!

(does that mean anything to anyone? Is NW Connecticut nice? It's be a 90 minute or so drive, apparently)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

nw connecticut is nice, i think. been years since i been through.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

oh also can u/maura/hand get me a job thx.

illtake anything, Friday, 1 April 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

yeah i'm @ m1b too blount! workin in the newsroom. no one gets tickets, not even fulltime staff. if you are fulltime you get a "pass" which actually lets you into any m1b game anywhere, UNLESS IT'S SOLD OUT. so, like none of the really good games.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

DO ANY OF YOU GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO JOE BUCK TO KILL HIM?

j blount (papa la bas), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

ihttp://www.shortfatguy.com/vacation/tigers/DCP01366.JPG - a (giant) photo of Comerica to give you an idea of what it looks like to go with the seating chart.

Go for a close seat in right field. Upper-deck seats are always kind of lame, because you're so far removed from the field/crowd/terrace you lose the atmosphere. And I don't like sitting in the infield as much (or paying 2x the money for a ticket), especially when you can sit right on top of the bullpen.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

sitting in the infield is really i think the best way to watch the pitcher, if that's your thing. but if you're just going to go, yeah, cheap seats in the outfield rule.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

thanks for the tips...i was having a hard time telling which seats are covered and which are open from the seating chart, the pic should help!

mark, you should totally go to a minor-league game. i've been to several on various roadtrips, and it's loads of fun (and you'll get a cool local experience)

colette (a2lette), Friday, 1 April 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

MARK! If you're going, let me know - I live FIVE MINUTES AWAY from the Rock Cats! The drive through NW CT should be nice, though the area the park's in is a bit dingy.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 1 April 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

yay, i just bought tickets in the 'pepsi bleacher' section...should be fun!

also, mark, i have a strange feeling that i've actually seen the portland sea dogs play...perhaps against the calgary cannons? or whatever minor league team is in billings montana?

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

Yay David! Okay! Would you be able to come along to an evening game (kick-off, or whatever it's called, is 6.35pm) on May 5th? I want to get some tix in advance - just say the word and we're there.

(also, can you have a look at the ticket-buying webpage and tell me which of the seats available would be the best? Thanks!)

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 09:19 (twenty years ago)

David R! Calling David R! Any thoughts on the above? I'd love to get tickets soon, just to be on the safe side. Can you post, email or AIM me (I'm Markelby)? Thanks!

(p.s. the UK general election results will come through while I'm at this game. There is a chance I could be very, very depressed)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

Make sure you post to ILBaseball too, Mark, if you want to find the Motherfucker.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

FIRST PITCH, dammit

i wont tolerate, Wednesday, 13 April 2005 18:04 (twenty years ago)

THE MOTHERFUCKER IS HERE

Mark, I'll e-mail you (but not from this GMail address - it'll be from a p0psh0ts.0rg address, because I'm crafty)! But, yeah, THESE CATS ROCK! (& maybe, this year, I'll go to more than 1 game!)

Re: post-election depression - that's what the between-inning kiddie games & the beer are for!
