Oh Ebay, Oh Humanity!

why do people charge 3 times what something is worth on ebay, and why do people buy things for 3 times the price you could get things new in a store?

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Because those paying 3x what some worthless piece-of-shit is really worth are stupid, and those charging 3x what some worthless piece-of- shit is really worth can get away with fleecing such fools.

Human stupidity = answer to the overwhelming majority of life's questions.

My friend just got a T-shirt that says "dress Black act Yiddish" for $25. I would pay double that.

RS, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

look at these t shirts from the russian 'big brother'...'za steklom'. they are wicked, genuinely nice design. the site doesnt say much about how to get em though.....says there are very few being produced....wonder if these are on ebay???????

ambrose, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Because you can't GET the stuff I buy on eBay easily in the Uk. Duh. Also, browsing eBay = so much bettah than working.

Sarah, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's odd, most stuff I buy from Ebay I get for about 1/3 of store prices, eg a Kraftwerk LP for £3!

DG, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ebay rules! Got the Clientele CD Suburban Light (as mucho praised by T Ewing) on Tuesday for 15p.

Billy Dods, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone went to the trouble of advertising and sending it out for 15p? They must really have hated it.

I heart ebay. Tom - let's start a pointless TELL ME bidding war

Nick, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

p & p was extra though. He also had a Salad CD which he sold for 10p and an Ocean Colour Scene CD for which the latest bid was £26. The mind truly boggles.

Billy Dods, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and whats with "cost of cd $2.00" cost of shipping , $5 ?

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's how sellers burn stupid people, who only look at the bid and not at the cost of shipping.

Nicole, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Most of the stuff I buy on eBay is vintage and collectible and usually cheaper than the vintage shop on the corner.

Samantha, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

how much would you pay for frottage on there?

chris, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Isn't frottage cheese? Not much. I have vintage cheese in my fridge.

Samantha, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No Samantha, frottage is not cheese. But it should be. It's a much better name than Lymeswold.

Nick, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Frottage is the star of this month's Company Magazine A-Z of sex. They advise 'make sure he uses a condom if he's going anywhere near your nether regions'. It is illustrated with a rather unpleasant photo of a girl in a horrid skirt.

Emma, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hang on, now I'm not sure what frottage is after all. I don't understand how it could feature in a Company magazine sex guide. Surely the woman is in no position to demand the wearing of a condom?

Nick, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It can be a mutual thing rather than a dirty old man in a raincoat thing you know.

Emma, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is what I didn't realise.

Nick, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BACK TO EBAY, to save this thread from filth. Things like the shipping charges and all are part and parcel of why I don't like eBay, but honestly I was always down on the idea because of the whole bidding thing. I don't like auctions, never have -- just give me a price and I'll decide about whether I want it or not from there.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm doing much of my christmas shopping on eBay.

Samantha, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ned, you could always look for those 'buy it now' auctions. eBay will be a slow painful death for me... especially for those rare things, sold by those who don't know what wonderful treasures they own (i.e. cheap)!

petite verte, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bring back the filth.

Ronan, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Exactly. Ebayers are goofy. It seems like I'm the only one getting bargains. I unload things for at least twice as much as I expected and either bid at the last moment or use "buy it now" option to obtain rare and out of print things for half of what I'd expect.

Nude Spock, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't go on ebay. I see far too many things I want...Japanese transformers...like Takara versions from the early '80's still in there boxes! And Casiotone keyboards. I need to be very rich before I go back to e-bay.

james, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

HOw did you filthyize my thread!

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ARGH WHY DID EBAY CHANGE THE INTERFACE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? IT IS IMPOSSIBLE ON DIALUP AND I *KNOW* I MISSED AN AUCTION SNIPE BECAUSE OF IT
