Time to go, Di Canio?

And not *just* because of last night's missed penalty that even me nan could have put away. I'm talking about the constant absences, his lack of availability on away days, the endless tantrums, the overabundance of diving, his insistence on taking all our corners, free kicks (and yes, penalties).

So do you think it's time for West Ham to say, "Thanks for the memories"? And if so, what teams do you feel would be interested in him?

god you forget quick don't you Trevor? still, with all the other strikers you've got (and how long till Kanoute leaves, leaving you with less still?)

No I don't forget Gareth, not at all. I haven't missed a home game for over ten years now. I see the man play week in week out. I still admire his artistry, skill and passion which are often second to none. But does such fancy football get results? No.

How many times have I seen him weave his way through three opposing defenders only to foolishly take on a fourth and get dispossessed? Too many. He often forgets there's ten other player on his side available to pass to. He's a stunning footballer, but a one-man show, and one-man shows do not win games.

Apart from Kanoute who is a better goalscorer, we have the resurgence of Kitson who recently scored a hat-trick at Charlton, and Defoe, of whom David Platt recently said he could not find fault with in any way. I agree. I'm sure with the transfer money from the sale of Di Canio we could come up with a worthy replacement.

Trevor, would you get that much money for Di Canio? I mean he's not the youngest and though he may still have the skills he has the faults you just outlined. A major team would probably only want him for cameos from the subs bench and he ain't going to go for that is he?

Unless of course you can get someone like Napoli to stump up for him of course as a trpophy signing?

I do think he's a genius though, and my mate the G who's a big west Ham fan wants him to stay and take on a coaching role! Well, he did a few weeks ago anyway.

I think you've hit the head on the nail, Chris. Di Canio is the sort of player that supporters of other teams like to admire from afar. But would they like to have him in their team? Not blimmin' likely! He's a liability, albeit an incredibly entertaining one, which goes some way towards explaining why other teams praise him yet never bid for him.

Kind of like the opposite of Steffen Freund minus the other clubs bidding for him.

I would gladly have diCanio back at Celtic. I don't know that he'd come back though. He was one of the most entertaining players I've ever seen in all my time at Parkhead (along with Dziekanowski and Moravcik) and I only wish he'd been playing in a better team than he was.

He wasn't near as much of a liability up here as he seems to have been down south, but maybe's that because other headcases were around to share the "limelight" with him (hello Pierre van Hooijdonk)

nine years pass...

What a legend. None of this primadonna shite. Keeper thinks he's Billy Big Bollocks after the Stoke game and was strutting his stuff in the next game. Di Canio taking no shit.
