Pyschopathic lesbian killer banished from her homeland, convert to mormonism , and world famous mystery writer now living in the obscure reaches of scotland. Anyone know how they found this out ? Anyone know what happened between the killings and the scottish time ?

Is this the lady on whom Heavenly Creatures was based?Sorry to answer a question with a question.

Damian, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, Juliet Hume turned into Anne Perry . Who writes mystery novels.

anthony, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Surely this is Danne Perry?

Apparently people in the literary scene in New Zealand knew of her true identity for decades before she was outed. I was reading about her quite recently after re-watching Heavenly Creatures. If you google her there are some interesting items, including a long interview done years before she was identified as Juliet Hulme. The interviewer innocently asked questions like: why are there so many female killers in your books? do you think you could ever kill anyone?, as well as questions about the possibility of redemption. (I'm sorry I can't link it for you because I don't know how to.)

After the killing she served about five years in prison in NZ, went to Sydney briefly after her release, and then returned to Britain. Her family were very supportive afterwards.

If you do read the interview it would be interesting to hear what you think.

The whole situation was horrible and tragic. I thought the film was wonderful. She wasn't happy about them making it.

I found the interview for you. It's at: http://www.users.bigpond.com/shmee/anneperry/dod_interview.html

One of the questions she was asked is: Would you feel that way if your mother and father had been the victim of a murder?

It was her friend's mother who was killed, but she must have been cringing. Some of the questions were uncannily appropriate.

Nancy Drew, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey, I took umbrage to the remark about Kate Winslet being fat so I was being sarcastic. I maintain this is not the lowest form of wit though close to it.

I read an interview with her once... she was sulky about the film but more because no one would really like a film made about an unpleasant and long buried part of their life.

She was kind of evasive about the murder itself... trying to push blame onto the other child and claiming that the victim was killed instantly, which was not the case. But I'd probably do the same if I'd murdered someone. Which I haven't.

I'd like to state for the record that, contrary to what Mr. Ewing would have you believe, I have neither written a mystery novel nor helped my lesbian lover kill her mother. I'm THAT boring.

This thread has blown my mind. I was pseudo-obsessed w/ heavenly creatures in college and I had no clue that one of the girls is now a bestselling novelist. I guess I should read some anne perry! Any recs on where to start?
