Starts off with his 'opinions'

Ends with him visibly moved by their plight.

Standard "politician meets real people" flyonthewall documentary...

The real question is whether the gypsies were visibly moved by Robert Kilroy Silk's plight

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

i saw most of this. it annoyed me that he ran off to a hotel every night when he was supposed to be living with the gypsies. he was hardly "living the gypsy lifestyle"

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

I came away with greater respect and understanding for the gypsies. Can't say the same for Kilroy-Silk. (Though I'm not sure I ever had any to start with.)

Funny, in his "I can't stay here!" strop he reminded me so much of my brother.

WE ARE THE KATE!!! (kate), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

(Can't say I really was expecting any other outcome, but still.)

WE ARE THE KATE!!! (kate), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

I thought at least he was honest about that. Like, after talking about Gays/Lesbians, he'd been told that he'd be "umm I can't say" if he continued asking about it...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

xpost, naturally...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

Thing is, would Kilroy-Silk really be any more "understanding" towards gays and lesbians when it came down to it? That seemed a bit hypocritical.

WE ARE THE KATE!!! (kate), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

unless it is to be inferred that THEY TOO are FEATHERBEDDING at the STATE'S EXPENSE blah blah dO yOu SeE ect ect [/usual mail rant]

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

Well, he raised it, so I'm assuming he wouldn't "kick them out of society".

Then again, everyone likes gays/lesbs now, even Michael Howerd. (Frankie's brother)

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

They've got money those gays and lesbs, so that's why they like them

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

It's one thing that really bugs me about Gypsy haterzz, is the "Oh I'm not talking about the proper romany gypsies.."

like "OH YEAH YOU CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE, AY?"

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

"Yup, those that look like this..."

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

Also, the extrapolation of "look, this elderly Romany lady is living in a CHALET, so that means that ALL ROMANY secretly want to live in houses."

WE ARE THE KATE!!! (kate), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

I don't see how Kilroy benifits from having done this show
He didn't do it out of innocent curiosty, i'm sure.

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

Robery Kilroy Silk = CHOKE ON SHIT AND DIE. Gawd, how I h8 him.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

Is Kilroy going to the funeral of Aileen Pope on Friday then?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

i'm not sure that RKS is smart enough to know when publicity benefits him and when not

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

i'm sure a lot of people who already supported him and his views still support him and his views after watching the show.

Sven Basted (blueski), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

(so i agree with slump man and mark s i think)

Sven Basted (blueski), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

as long as that's not a lot of people. though most people who support him were probably tuned to eastenders.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

i was watching the infinitely weirder rick stein.

N_Rq, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

RKS thinks he's god's gift
he believes the only reason ppl disagree is that they haven't seen him "in action"
but actually the only ppl who have time for him are those who haven't seen him "in action"

he wants to put "HIS ICONIC STAMP" on this issue = he will end up stiffing the gypsy-hataz just like he stiffed Ew-KIP

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

HIS EGO IS OUR SAFEGUARD

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

this made me laugh--

Kilroy: "why can't you just live in a house?"
Gypsy: "it's against my culture"
Kilroy: "oh, i thought i'd got you there..."

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

what was he expecting?
"oh i hadn't thought of that, yes i'll go live in a house now, cheers rob"

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

Gypsy: "why are you orange? why can't you just be a normal colour like the rest of us"
Kilroy: "it's against my culture"
Gypsyy: "oh, i thought i'd got you there..."

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

It was patronsing in the extreme - mind you he has made a career of being patronising.

Oh I don't know if I can manage in a caravan - how do you make a bed? - ooh I'm such a nobhead. I thought the lad had working class roots.

kayT (kaytee), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

I thought the lad had working class roots.

He talks about little else.

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, his sexist drivel about "who will unpack my suitcase for me? maybe I can get Janie (was that the Romany wife's name?) to make my bed for me" etc. had me wanting to punch him even before he stormed out.

WE ARE THE KATE!!! (kate), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

... Little Else being the old woman who lived opposite him in his two up, four down, terraced tenement miner's cottage in Heckwaithe-uber-Throgmondstaffe when he was growing up

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

James McNeill Whistler: I hear that frightful fellow Robert Kilroy-Silk has formed his own political party.
Oscar Wilde: Oh reaaaaaally, what crashing bore.
James McNeill Whistler: You know what he has decided to call this body of useless men?
Oscar Wilde: No, do tell.
James McNeill Whistler: Veritas.
Oscar Wilde: Well, it's appropriate at least.
James McNeill Whistler: Why is that?
Oscar Wilde: Because everytime one sees him on the telly he's making a veritable ass of himself.

* close curtain *

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

ha ha, more private eye gubbins, did you see their extended KS's Veritas party "Veritas The Quest" analogy. HEIN?

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Eh? I thought I thought that up myself?!?!?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

PWNT, ROFL

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

I lived in a caravan for 15 months. I feel the plight of the gypsy. Mainly the plight of being constantly picked on for living in a caravan.

Alix with an I ? (alix), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

to one of his groupies (alledgedly): "all right, get your c*nt out then"

xin, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

That looks like a retort to "get your cock out" to be brutally fair...

Robert Kilroy-Silk, what's in your caravan? -->> have you ever met a GYPSY?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

lexical impoverishment as control
