SLOPPY JOE SLOP-ah SLOPPY JOE
I like sloppy joes with ridiculously thick (drunkenly) hand cut slices of sharp cheddar and cole slaw. McDonalds, put a Mc in front of that, assclowns, and maybe I shall once again patronagicize your crumbtacular establishment!

I've never seen the Heat & Serve Manwich before. What a wonderful idea. Maybe.

Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

I thought manwich was made up by Futurama!!!

"My manwich!"

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

So, what is it? Is it just a HUGE burger that you microwave?

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

http://www.conagrafoods.com/media/media_release.jsp?ID=20041027

Manwich Heat & Serve original sloppy joe sauce with fully cooked ground beef provides all of the ingredients and flavor of a sloppy joe but eliminates preparation and clean up. Since the sauce contains fully cooked meat, consumers no longer need to purchase and cook the ground beef. Packaged in a microwaveable, resealable tub, Manwich Heat & Serve heats in a microwave for six minutes and is ready to serve. With Manwich Heat & Serve, family members simply heat it up and serve themselves, resealing the tub and refrigerating until other family members are ready to eat. Unused product can be resealed and refrigerated for future meals.

Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

Manwich is such a pain in the ass to prepare, this is why I eat cereal.

Aaron A., Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

A suace mostly made of meat then? Awesome.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

consumers no longer need to purchase and cook the ground beef.
and the meat part is free!

Aaron A., Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

*free* beef. That's the good stuff...

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

i thought a manwich was the physical act of being sandwiched between two men.

di, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

Meat-containing Manwich sauce is heat-and-serve-ready

(From the January 2005 edition of Packaging Digest)

Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

Does the act of being sandwiched between two studly men have the same erotic appeal for women that being sandwiched between two lovely ladies has for men?

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

i thought a manwich was the physical act of being sandwiched between two men.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

hell. yes.

of course i'm hot, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

Wait - With Manwich Heat & Serve, family members simply heat it up and serve themselves, resealing the tub and refrigerating until other family members are ready to eat. Unused product can be resealed and refrigerated for future meals.

Heat it, fridge the unused stuff then reheat it again over and over?! HELLO BOTULISM.

Also, dont you guys have mince bolognese sauce in cans already? We do.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

Heat it, fridge the unused stuff then reheat it again over and over?! HELLO BOTULISM.

Basically it's mince in a bap, right?

it's a SLOPPY JOE, sir!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Basically it's mince in a bap, right?

Okay, does "bap" not mean what I think it does?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

what is a "bap," anyway?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

A bread roll, often a bit larger than yr average burger bun. Not tits. Tits would be baps. Are baps. Oh stop.

Alix with an I ? (alix), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Please stop calling me 'Sir'!

Alix with an I ? (alix), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

its not bolognese sauce. its a lot closer to mixing ground beef with some ketchup and black pepper than any bolognese.

mmmm tasty! (for real)

the tub version reminds me of http://www.generalmills.com/corporate/brands/product.aspx?catID=68#

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

It sounds nice. I guess I can't get one in Peckham though.

Alix with an I ? (alix), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

you can make yr own quite easily. i have. i basically used my bolognaise recipe but with ketchup in...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Sloppy Joe=the meal in the cafeteria to hide a multitude of reused ground beef's sins.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I've worked places where the canteen does simlar things with the food. One day it'll be "mince and tatties" (From Scotland, y'see) made from what was already probably not the freshest meat, then the next day it'll be Chilli Con Carne, then to carry on their covert re-use of meat the third day will be a spicy lasagne...

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and sometimes they throw taco's in there somewhere between chilli and spicy lasagne.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

Vegan Sloppy Joes are ridiculously easy. Sloppy Joe mix is vegan on its own.. just get those cheap Green Giant Veggie/TVP Crumbles, add, heat up, etc. vegan sammiches for days.

donut debonair (donut), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

"lasagne salad"

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

A lasagne salad is where men stack up on top of each other and the whole thing is then covered in bechamel sauce.

moley, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

I bought a tub of sloppy joe (not Manwich, some other brand) while in college and it was very very very very very very very nasty.

()ops (()()ps), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

some other brand

That says it all

Stan Fields (Stan Fields), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Sloppy Joes are one of those childhood pleasures that I've totally lost. The sauce now tastes too sweet and the meat is always Grade F -Circus Animals.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

I bought a tub of sloppy joe (not Manwich, some other brand) while in college and it was very very very very very very very nasty.

lesson: you shoulda bought MANWICH

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

not to mention -- i've seen non-sloppy joe type sandwiches dubbed sloppy joes in my neck of the woods (NYC metro area). particularly sandwiches w/ turkey (!). is this just an NYC thing?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I've ever eaten and hamburger and wished for the meat to be, uh, runnier. Why?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 7 April 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

its just not the same. a burger is nothing like a sloppy joe. why would i want an apple when i have an orange?

We could always get a rise out of my mother by saying that. Even "Peany butter" would do the trick. And she's not a prude. I think it was just the mental image of a penis in a blender that got to her.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

there's a bar near where i work (in SF) that makes pretty good sloppy joes. the cook puts some kind of peppers in there that give it a nice spicey flavor. they are extremely overpriced and their fries suck, so i don't eat there much, but if they had good fries and the right price, i'd eat it every day.
