Gentlemen Prefer Blondes?

Who said this, and why?

More like mulleted Pepsi drivers prefer blondes. Once in a rare while I'll find a blonde girl attractive, and then it usually turns out she's from Iceland or Uruguay or something.

The inbreeding it takes to retain the blonde gene guarantees that most blondes are strange and flawed. I say this as a blonde myself, albeit a shockingly handsome one.

Gentlemen prefer brunettes or black-haired lasses.

andy --, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

I was at a seminar on image aesthetics a few weeks ago and a speaker announced to the audience that "Latina is the new blonde" and now I've been saying it all over the place.

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

I agree with that, I'll say it too.

andy --, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

It might be hairist of me, but brunette >>> blonde.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

REDHEADS baby. and not the pale Irish kind - the saucy, fiery kind...

so OTM it hurts

Dude, are you a 15 year old asian chick? (jingleberries), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

brunettes, blondes, redheads---they're all good. blondes tend to stand out more in a crowd though.

()ops (()()ps), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

gentlemen prefer hot asses — most guys I know don't care about the curtains or the carpet.

sugarpants: kind of blurry, kind of double (sugarpants), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

I've had every hair color known to man at this point and haven't noticed one bit of difference in the amount of/type of attention I receive. oops & sugarpants OTM, the rest of you psychos.

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

it's funny, I had the kind of kneejerky attitude that began this thread all through my teens and into my 20s . . . until I realized at one point that the last five women I'd dated were all blonde, at which I jettisoned the (stupid) binary thinking I'd been forcing myself to use.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

In my history of hoookups, I've only hooked up with two blondes. One was from Philly and was pretty hot, the other was so long ago I don't remember much about her. So if it were a pie chart, the blondes would only represent .004297% of total hookups.

andy --, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

Hooray someone with more exes than me!

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

"Pie chart..." Heh heh.

andy --, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Allzay, most of these girls hardly qualify as exes. More like also-rans.

andy --, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

When I say "exes" I usually mean that as well.

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

oh, snap!

(p.s. i LOLed at "pie chart," too.)

sugarpants: kind of blurry, kind of double (sugarpants), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

anyway Matos is also kind of OTM IMO FWIW WTF. mainly because everyone I've known, male or female, who is adament that they have a type, I've then seen photos of exes/met their current/etc and they look nothing like this thing that they claim they ONLY LIKE EVER and usually actualy look exactly like what the person says they DISLIKE! except for the girl who was only interested in gay men, that I have no opinion on.

not that that is everyone but I kind of think all people in the world have the Matos Moment (TM) described above, eventually.

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

I mean I used to be convinced I only dated dudes with black hair until I realized I've only dated TWO dudes with black hair and 7,000,000,000 dudes with light brown or blonde hair.

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Was the great Loos book the origin of the phrase? I've no idea. Anyway, most of my partners have had brown or black hair, but since I don't know the proportions in the population at large, I don't know if my numbers are disproportionate. I'm not aware of any real preference.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

yeah, these days I just accept that I'm from Minnesota and am therefore preternaturally disposed toward Nordic goddess-types (among eighty bajillion other things)

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

U LOVE ALL TEH LADIES MATOS, DON'T FRONT NOW

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

hence the eighty bajillion other etc.

(Pants, whimpers with necrophilic lust)

I used to chase girls with this haircut. Still do, I guess.

andy --, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

For the longest time I said "I'm not that into blondes." It wasn't until about a month ago where I realized all my exes were blondes. ALL OF 'EM. Well, one was darkish blonde.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

Gentlemen Prefer Blowjobs

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

I am beginning to think that "I'm not really into blondes" is the type of thing you say, just like "I'm not really into Coldplay" or "Chinese food is unsophisticated", just to have a conversation about nothing.

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

http://www.cardifans.com/images/nina-cig.jpg

The ONE blonde I'm still hot on, though she often dyes it hideously black.

andy --, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

"I don't own a television", etc.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

haha sanp

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

I dated a blonde for two years. I don't really like her, though.

I remember liking brunettes even when I was a little kid (hello, Jennifer Connelly in Labyrinth!), but having a brunette girlfriend who has a lot of blonde antipathy has strengthened that preference, admittedly.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

Nina Persson looks amazing as a brunette!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I agree with Spencer.

I don't understand the idea of antipathy towards another hair color. I mean like I said I've had all of them, so maybe I'm a bad test subject here but what is there to have issue with towards a hair color?

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Honestly, though, I find myself much more enraptured by dark haired ladies! But when J0an J3tt went blonde, she gave me a stiffie, so perhaps there's a loophole in my clause.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

Ally, maybe it's that to those haters blonde signifies more than just hair color, ie stereotypical vacuous, dumb blonde who cruises through life on her looks.

()ops (()()ps), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

I usually like brunettes and maybe I am truly drawn to them (there are more of them - even in LA!), but I'd have absolutely no problem being a blonde (and have had real blonde girlfriends too).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

JOan Jett looked like Susan Powder! I saw her in the audience at Peaches a couple months back with her black shagg intact and she looked SO MUCH better and Jettish.

andy --, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

I don't understand why anyone would go for the Susan Powter look, but that has nothing to do with blondes per se.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

I think in my case it was one of those "the media's feeding me this stupid Pamela Anderson archetype, how boring, blondes must therefore be more commonly desired and I shall flout the masses!" kinds of things that carried on far past its sell-by date.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

every person I've found attractive has created a "type" I like.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Miccio OTM.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

correction to my last post: "being with a blonde" - haha!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I think Miccio pretty much hit the nail on the head there.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Susan Powter never ever looked like this.

haha I remember now that I made an exception for bottle blondes because (a) I was one myself for a good while (I'm thinking of doing it again actually) and (b) I like 'em trashy.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

I am blonde and gentlemen don't prefer me. I think everyone I meet is more into fighting against the stereotype of dudes liking girls with bleach blonde hair and tans. Not that I am tan, or bleached.

mandee refers to male blondes as BLONDE AMBITIONS.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

i don't think i've ever been involved with a blond(e). i've been on dates with them (and, um, etc.) but not much more than that. i've been blonde myself, but only for like six months.

All the women on the Indian African Chinese sub-/continents ie the majority are not blonde and 'blonde is preferable' is one of the nice ideas that prevents them concentrating on True Plight etc. So it is in a way an important thing, the personal is political, it is no joke bla bla.

(i'm blonde [who dyed my hair red over boy insecurity {but it's now growing out cuz i don't give a shit anymore}] in LA no less)
i predict dark hair with blonde roots will be the new star-bellied sneetch fad - to separate the vikings from the paris hiltons.
