First PBS announced that "Sesame Street" would kick off its 35th season this week with a multiyear story arc about healthy habits. No problem there; childhood obesity rates are soaring. Then I learned of changes that turned my "Sesame Street" world upside-down.

My beloved blue, furry monster -- who sang "C is for cookie, that's good enough for me" -- is now advocating eating healthy. There's even a new song -- "A Cookie Is a Sometimes Food," where Cookie Monster learns there are "anytime" foods and "sometimes" foods.

I guess the only reason that Cookie Monster wasn't direly unhealthy from eating all those cookies over the years was that they always just fell out of his mouth onto the floor.

Or losing them in the disco.

I remember an old ABC public service cartoon (sort of like "hanker for a hunk of cheese") that warned kids: "Don't drown your food, in mustard or mayo or goop.." or something.

I agree; but who the fuck were they to tell us not to drown our food? That's purely subjective, how much ketchup a tater-tot should float in. Right?

also, cookies also completely conflict with the Intelligent Design hypothesis for the creation of the universe.. if you really think about it.

This is easily what made me happiest about the show when I was little. I think about that image and still want to laugh like a three-year-old.
