With apologies to those of you who don't like Christmas, can the rest of you say that such-and-such a year was their best Christmas ever?

new nostalgic answers!

1992 - when Mum hit the sherry and decided we should move the sofa into the middle of our lounge and use it as a net for 'balloon volleyball' - by the end we had a tournament system set up, grudge matches, league tables - it lasted three days. Good fun.

1984 - when I woke up - incredibly excited - at 2am to find Santa had brought me a Star Wars At-At Walker and the Millennium Falcon - I spent most of the morning (and the rest of the day) putting the bits together and fixing the stickers on.

1984 for me, too, as that was the year that the teacher at school let us have a party in class. This was taken as a green light to bring in as much Silly String and fake snow as we could possibly fit into our Adidas sports bags, together with similar-category but even-more- frowned-upon products such as shaving foam and fart spray. All of these were used liberally in whatever-lessons were still going on. But when classes finished and registration was over, up went the paper chains and tinsel, the lights in the classroom were dimmed (not sure this was actually possible, maybe they were all turned off bar one) and the stereo was switched on. We heard Human League's "Louise", Tina Turner's "Private Dancer" and Paul McCartney and the Frog Chorus's "We all Stand Together", gorged oursleves silly on jelly and ice cream and let off as many party poppers as our meagre allowances allowed. Later it was time for the snog/slight swaying to music known as the SLOW DANCE, as the by-now-moribund paper hats started chafing at our eyebrows.

1993-Exchanging presents with boyfr at the time. I gave him 'Le diable au corps', as I was 19 and he was 17 and still at school. He told his A-Level tutor, who replied:'Well, she is not your girlfriend. She is your lover, then'.

1983-Alternative secular version of Christmas Eve with my Dad's friends at the trade union as he was back at home. They taught me to play Canasta and Continental, but we don't reach Bridge, too complicated.

Knowing our Cock-er-nee geezer family, Trevor, they probably nicked them!

I'm lying. One of our slaves hewn both toys with his own bleeding, quivering hands. We gave him a segment of Terry's Chocolate Orange and booted him back into the darkness. He thanked us obsequiously for the chocolate, of course ;-)

DID I ASK YOU TO SPEAK, FLUNKY?

I remember Christmas 1985...I trod on my Sunstreaker transformer toy and broke it's arm of. I remember getting my Cliffjumper toy and making Sunstreaker say "Don't tell the others about my arm, I'll soldier on" (i.e don't tell mum or dad!)...Most Christmas's in the 80's were great for me, no specific date stands out, as they all followed pretty much the same routine. I still like them now, but I like them to be laid back affairs.

Yeah, I never got the AT-AT or the Falcoln (though I nearly bought the lego version). My strategy was to get lots of figures and the smaller ships. I was really precise with my Christmas lists, I used to research the prices, in catalogues and from toy ship visits (!!)...and give out either or lists. I was such a terrible little mercenary. These days, I am useless at giving people present ideas, it's usually like "I don't mind, give me cash if you like"...Oh for the calculations and precision of my youth! :)

I thought I'd spelt Falcon wrong. Off to bed.

The First Christmas home from school , i got picked up after the concert and we drove straight thru the night to Calgary , where we stopped at an all night diner and had mash potatoes and meat loaf on midnight ( this qwas the 24 turning onto the 25)

Probably last year, wiht my mum and her partner in Italy, nice dinner of guinea fowl in a damson sauce, parsnips, potatos and fennel, followed by hours of listening to and talking about jazz.

I found this endearing and funny. I like the way children adapt quickly to a change in their toys' circumstances.

Probably the times we went to Florida. Nothing says Christmas like an alligator walking down the street.

I will give my 2 worst b/c I am rebel.

The year both my brothers got radio controlled cars and I got a chess set.
The year I ran downstairs Christmas morning to find zero zippo zilch presents waiting. Bringing to an abrupt end the tradition of getting both Hanukkah and Christmas presents.
