I can't get blogger to work. Anyone know what's going on? I just go to blogger.com and get a message saying "the document contains no data." Anyone else having this problem? I tried in both firefox and IE.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Friday, 8 April 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

seems fine for me

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 8 April 2005 07:54 (twenty years ago)

I get "page cannot be displayed" from IE and "Document contains no data" on firefox.

:(

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Friday, 8 April 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

why won't the mutherfucking rss feeds STICK on summary/short. they keep resetting to FULL, and FT ends up syndicating the entire contents of blog posts.

i have e-mailed them about this. no specific answer obv.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 8 April 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

Blogger's down for everyone right now I think - even www.blogger.com is unavailable. Haven't been able to publish for a good 12 hours or so (now 11:44 UK time).

Apparently Blogger RSS feeds are only available as summary/short for people (like me) who signed up for "Blogger Pro" back in the day. That was the paid-for service, which I think got discontinued a while back when they merged with Google and released the extra features for free. (Except this one, clearly.) So it's "full" or nothing.

On the plus side: if people are reading the posts via RSS without clicking onto the site proper, then at least it saves you a bit of bandwidth?

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 8 April 2005 09:49 (twenty years ago)

still working for me, just published an entry okay.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 8 April 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

Blogging's about the last thing on my mind at the moment. At the end of my last entry some troll wrote "God you're boring," and even though I deleted that comment I couldn't help thinking: "he's right, actually."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 8 April 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

RSS feeds which contain only a summary rather than the full post are a tool of the Devil. Your site won't lose traffic if your RSS feed features the whole posts. Since a reader has to subscribe to a feed, you can only add to and maintain your readership levels.

A lot of the feeds from blogspot.com that I read seem to randomly switch between offering full posts and summaries. No idea why.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 8 April 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

Ah, I hate when blogger goes down when I'm trying to keep to a schedule. Feh.

BLOGGING IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT PLEASURE NOT SCHEDULES

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

Trollspeak Translated.

"God you're boring."

1. My specialist interests aren't the same as your specialist interests.

2. I am an emotionally disconnected sociopath.

3. Due to a fundamental lack of self-esteem, I am sub-consciously threatened by your erudition and ability, and therefore need to drag you down to my level in the only way I know how.

4. I am hoping for a response from you - however negative - as it will validate my existence, and give me the illusion that I have formed some sort of emotional engagement - however twisted.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

Some pleasures could benefit from a little scheduling. If only I could learn how.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

Yeah it's just delayed back-from-holiday lethargy. Anyway imminent forthcoming highlights include Genesis, Gary Glitter (and the Glitter Band) and the Goodies so I'd better get on with it...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

blogger driven sites, grind to a halt ! therefore blogosphere is quiet today:

I'm sure the internet isn't as big as people say it is.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes I think it's just one big Tat Emporium. ;-)

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

Oh God, I'm in Blogger halfway through the long-planned epic Ken Dodd/Stones Popular post, if I lose it I'll go mental, thanks for the heads up.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

You know, I look at their website every few months to see if they're still in business. Sadly, they still are.

(xpost)

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

(Tom xpost)

Always type it up and save it in MS Word before transferring it over to Blogger, which is what I do to ensure that lengthy posts don't get lost in the system.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

I used to do that, dunno when I got out of this very sensible habit.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

TEXT EDITORS >>>>>>>> WORD PROCESSORS

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

Blogger/ Google is based in Pacific Time Zone [US]

Therefore current time is 06:41

Hopefully things will be resolved 2 - 3 hours time?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

Use Emacs!

(xpost)

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

The Bloggers' Green Cross Code (Windows users only).

1. CTRL-A
2. CTRL-C
3. Publish.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

I'm with Alan - I type and save things in Notepad first.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

yep, hurrah for teh notepad.

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

Notepad > MS Word, because MS Word converts double quotes to 66s and 99s, and thus screws up hyperlinks.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

BLOGGING IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT PLEASURE NOT SCHEDULES

Whatever, Marcello. Half of the reason I do my site is so that I have some way to keep disciplined, both in terms of writing (working through bad days and "writer's block") but also with how I budget my time throughout the day. I try to get everything done by 11 am. It used to be 10 am.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

I just removed my blogger cookies and it's still not working.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Likewise.

But then I took a deep breath and deleted ALL my cookies.

And now it IS working.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

Or rather... I can access www.blogger.com again, and get as far as editing a post... but publishing still isn't working.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

The Goodies as musical force?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I'll just wait til whenever they get their shit together. I don't want to delete all my cookies, a lot of them are helpful.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

worked fine for me a half hour ago, but it was giving me grief the other day.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

Working fine for me, I've even just tackled Andreas Johnson in my eagerly awaited "One hit wonders of the 2000s" series.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

Tomorrow: "Airwave" by Rank 1!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

Or "Rank 1" by Airwave, I forget.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

It published first time in the end.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

OK its not fucking up any more, but its doing that shit where it says "publishing" and stays at 0% for a century.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Friday, 8 April 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

FUCK YOU BLOGGER

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

It worked briefly for me this morning, after several aborted efforts.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Fantabulous. I finally finish writing a long post after waiting all day to do it, and now it won't let me publish it. I missed my little window of time. Feh. At least I have it saved.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

ok, here's a weird one. every time i try and go to a blogspot blog with firefox it sends me to my blogger dashboard instead! wtf?!

(fwiw safari still works fine)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki the vaud blog is also eating comments for some reason :(

jones (actual), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
anyone had the dumb misfortune to move their blog over to the "new blogger" which is "out of beta"? you'll find about 70000 bugs if you do, so don't. worse, google is offering no actual support and the team they did have working on it went on a 10 day vacation over the holidays, leaving hundreds of angry users.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

;_;

benrique (Enrique), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

Also every once in a while for some reason the RSS feed will spazz out and reissue all your old articles.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

i'm a little surprised that google hasn't gottten more flack for this publicly since they obviously released an application without QAing it.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

anyway I only care because we use it to post baby pictures and my family is now bugging me

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

yeah it managed to zap my html code so that nobody could access my archives files. luckily i'm fucking uber cool about this sort of thing and sorted it myself. other people might not be so lucky tho..

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

yes the new blogger is fucked...no support either...luckily the reason I know this is because it won't let me move over to it, since my blog was originally a team blog, even tho I'm now the admin, it still won't let me move nor does it explain why clearly....good to hear the new one is crap then, thought I was missing out!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:27 (nineteen years ago)

and now it can't even upload images to my own domain site, it's trying to upload them to google somewhere and failing on its miserable fucking arse. I hope you burn in fucking hell Blogger for all this shit.

ahem

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

it is seriously dismantled and destroyed. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more public attention because they fucked it bigtime. they're taking away the ability to host your blog on a private ftp site, from what I can tell; you have to set up your hosting with google. no matter because everything about the new "non-beta" version is completely broken for almost everyone.

alternatives, please!

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

after complaining a million times on the google blogger help group, they finally fixed our blog. so, maybe complain there. A LOT.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 02:54 (nineteen years ago)

I stayed away from switching to 'new' Blogger and have kept it on my own domain. At one point in November, old Blogger wouldn't let me post at all for about a week with some arcane problem that was universal. Eventually, they fixed it.

Since then I've noticed the continued complaints in the news group.
Haven't been compelled to switch to the new version. At this point, I have no intention of doing so. If it becomes absolutely necessary, I'll migrate to the pay service my colleage at FAS.ORG uses.

It can be frustrating.

Dick Destiny (Dick Destiny), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 04:26 (nineteen years ago)

well it's working again for me but I plan on moving to wordpress as soon as I can figure out a way to get it to deal with thumbnails better

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 04:30 (nineteen years ago)

i've managed to work it out for myself, i'd be tearing my hair out waiting for blogger to tell me whats going on. seems they've changed the way blogging to your own url works. nuff said.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 09:34 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you for this thread y'all - I'd been reluctant to switch anyway but I wont be for now!
