STAR Trek veteran Patrick Stewart has clinched the lead in ITV’s £4.5million answer to Doctor Who.
Yorkshire-born Stewart, 64, will return to British television for the first time in 20 years as a scientist who stops disasters in the four-part sci-fi thriller Eleventh Hour.
Writer Stephen Gallagher said it was “a real champagne moment” when X-Men star Stewart signed up. Gallagher added: “X-Men 3 had their dates to meet and we had ours. Both of us wanted him.”
Eleventh Hour starts filming next month and will feature a glamorous female assistant for Stewart.
