Getting through Friday afternoons

What's the stupidest thing you've done to alleviate the boredom of a Friday afternoon as you wait for it to become a respectable time for you to leave your place of work?

I once decided to re-arrange my office, but it took me until about 2 hours after I'd normally have left to sort it all out ('cos I couldn't fit everything in (along the walls) the way I thought I wanted to do it, so I had to move everything back).

pot noodle, wank.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Are you in England? Why aren't you drunk?

One time I decided to see how long I could go not sitting down at my desk. So I would just walk around my office, looking like I had a purporse, and only occasionally filing something or taking something to someone else's desk.

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

watching the snow out of the window. YES, THE SNOW

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

I am really unhappy about this snow. I'm supposed to be going to a barbeque after all!

I can't remember, but I want to say 45 minutes. It got kind of ridiculous when the receptionist kept paging me to answer the phone and I was just standing at my cubicle talking on the phone for a long time.

Kate, your name transmogrofications are very pleasing!

Another thing I tried at my last job: finding hiding places where I can work out. It's more of a self dare, really. Like, how many jumping jacks can you do in the ladies room without someone walking in on you and finding you all breathy and red faced?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Another fun thing to do is sneak a book into the bathroom, but it helps to have a purse to stash it in.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

That's enoght of this...time to go now

andyjack (andyjack), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

taxes.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

well our snow isn't heavy enough to ruin a bbq. in fact as i speak it's completely vanished and blue skies prevail.

So for the next 10 minutes I will spend my time powering down, packing my things, yapping to colleagues about the weekend plans etc

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

We don't *all* work in advertising

(plus, some of us have to drive home)

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

That said, it's Friday at 5pm and no one has offered to buy anyone a drink yet. :-(

Adherents of the Repeated Kate (kate), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to see how many laps I can get around the office today - I mean, it's freaking huge, I could wander around for hours and no one would notice. I may do that, and I may take a nap in the couch in the cafeteria, too.

Me and a girl two cubicles over shoot rubber bands at each other from about 3 pm on just about every day. I usually hold back and pretend all week like I'm too busy for such childish games, so by Friday I've got a huge stockpile built up and I get to unload on her big time.

I do the laps around the office thing here, too. It's kinda built in a figure-8 manner, if I'm creative with the route I take, I can usually make it 2 or 3 times around with no one the wiser.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

I usually just leave if it's Friday and there's nothing left to do. Lots of other people do it.

Now, if it's anything but a Friday, that's more difficult. For example, yestderday I spent a good 40 minutes helping my special lady friend pick out a swimsuit over IM. I totally got caught looking at v1ctoria's s3cret dot com in the process, but it was all good.

Dan M. (OutDatWay), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Walk up and down the stairs. Rifle through the stationery cupboard. Water the plants.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

I don't think there are any continuous routes around our office at all - if you want to walk around in a circle, you have to go outside.

I can't just leave if there's nothing to do, because part of my job is in support - I have to keep my phone by me waiting for people to call up and report problems.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

eleven years pass...

tried walking in circles

dreadfully bored. finish work in 13 minutes. then an hour's commute. then re-affixing a curtain rail in the bedroom. and no plans, interesting or otherwise, for the evening. pfft.

jim in vancouver, Friday, 15 July 2016 23:18 (nine years ago)

no plans = heaven for me.

mom us (map), Friday, 15 July 2016 23:20 (nine years ago)

no plans but definite stupid chores and drudgery, ha. i would like true "no plans".

jim in vancouver, Friday, 15 July 2016 23:20 (nine years ago)

i've been housesitting for a year. no roommates + air conditioning is so fucking luxurious. two more weekends to not go anywhere and enjoy the hell out of it.

xp oh yeah, there are always chores to do that turn "no plans" into dullness.

mom us (map), Friday, 15 July 2016 23:26 (nine years ago)

ya these last 2 months i have so many things to do on the weekends

i have to sit in traffic six days a week because of this class tomorrow
