I haven't seen the latter, but Safe is a great film.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

I like both of these! Safe is obviously great, but Safe Men won me over despite my initial skepticism. It is very funny.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

Both! Though my heart's w/ Safe Men. Sam Rockwell + Steve Zahn + Mark Ruffalo + Paul Giamatti = yayayayayayay.

Safe is an AMAZING film

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

I didn't see either, but can I just take this moment to applaud Amateur(ist) for carrying on this idea?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

safe men might be one of the funniest movies ever.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 8 April 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

safe is one of the best films ever by anybody at anytime. i think i liked safe men but i can't remember much about it.

jody the country girl doll (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 8 April 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

safe reminds me of the boy in the plastic bubble.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 8 April 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

I agree with jody. I've already told you my story about 'safe', am, how I was sat forward resting my elbows on my knees, cradling my face, fr the last 30 mins, transfixed, and how I couldn't move for nr. 10mins after it finished.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 8 April 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

Safe rules.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 8 April 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

I havent seen 'Safe Men', but 'Safe' is the best film about born-again Christianity I've ever seen. As someone who came out of that religion, it was really easy for me to read her 'germ' experiences as metaphorical for the type of Christian who sees the world as "polluted", "unsafe" and "destructive", which leads way more naturally to the films conclusion where [SPOILER] she progressively leads herself into greater and greater degrees of seclusion until she's cut off entirely from her family & friends. That movie was crazy cathartic for me.

god, sorry my grammar and semantics were shit in that post.

PeopleFunnyBoy (PeopleFunnyBoy), Saturday, 9 April 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

I've never ever heard of Safe Men, so I'm intrigued by the fact it's getting such praise. (Also since I'll be seeing Sam Rockwell in Hitchhiker's soon enough.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 9 April 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

safe men isn't on dvd, which is a great injustice.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 9 April 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

i think i'm gnna watch safe again tonight!

when i wz sub at S&S the rule wz that the title of the films is what you see in the openin credits, thus we always had to write the title as: [safe]

(other quirky S&S pedantries: Se7en - though this caught on elsewhere after a while)

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 9 April 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

Safe is still sort of my least favorite Todd Haynes film. But I'm not sure Far from Heaven will hold up since I first saw it.

Eric von H. (Eric H.), Saturday, 9 April 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Which isn't to say it's not good.

Eric von H. (Eric H.), Saturday, 9 April 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

i wonder what i'd think of "safe" if i saw it again soon. i haven't seen it in awhile.

i guess there's one way to find out...

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Saturday, 9 April 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

that way = reading ile!!

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 9 April 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

I think I just realized I've never watched any Haynes movie a second time.
