Tell me about your teeth.

alix, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no, I'd rather not, it's all too horrible.

/shudder

chris, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i have 2 fillings from when i was little. the rest are fine. this summer i panicked because i hadn't been to the dentist in 4 years, they were fine though, i was very relieved.

gareth, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They are great and have NO fillings or breakages. Also the dentist said I could keep my wisdom teeth as I have a big enough jaw. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Emma, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My jaw is too small. I had to have extractions and braces. There are no fillings though, and the vampire teeth have been vanquished.

alix, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no fillings but my gums are shot to shit. I neglected to clean my teeth this morning.

RickyT, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes this reminds me, we need to get some more toothpaste. Hay none in the bathroom. I had a RUM period a while back where my teeth ITCHED. I seem to have odd gums too, as recently I have brushed teeth and out comes BLUD. (blud... blud...)

Also my front two teeth are sloping backwards. I should take MORE CARE of them I should.

Sarah, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes. Where did they toothbaste go? I didn't think it was empty. I'm going Tesco, so I'll get some. My front teeth are chipped and uneven. Overall, I am quite fond of my teeth. My tongue is too small though.

alix, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

chris is a dentalist! hohohoho.

i think i shall have to have my wisdom teeth out. i am trying to ignore them.

katie, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Numerous fillings of various types (the disgusting grey ones that look worse than the actual cavities, the newer teeth-colored ones). I treated my mouth like a dirty whore when I was a kid - oh, all that candy & soda was SO GOOD, but now I'm paying that cost. I should play hockey or rugby and have some of these decrepit things popped out.

David Raposa, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, good egg. Remember to get home in time for BUFFY. I like the idea of TOOTHBASTE. I worry that my teeth are too low in my GUM and might fall out. I taste BLUD in my mouth a lot. I don't think they're chipped though. I have a habit of pressing my tongue against my teeth which now I am paranoid is making them jolt out of place. Grr.

Sarah, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd rather not. They are AWFUL. Awfully expensive, too.

Laetitia, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i haf PERFECT teef. no fillings, no extractions, no wisdom teeth problems (for i haf a very LARGE HEAD DESPITE WHAT MARK MAY THINK), nice and strong. grrrr.

jess, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Loads of fillings due to nasty Ventolin syrup when I was a lad. Most of my big teeth have at least one filling in them. My wisdom teeth have come through with no problems whatsoever which amuses me because my brother had to have his sawn out of his head.

Jonnie, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I must be very lucky as I have a very sweet tooth and love toffees and buns and stuff but still no fillings. Everyone I know seems to have teeth that crumble if they try to eat anything tougher than a banana. Plus tons of my childhood friends chipped front teeth on bouncy castles making them scared to go on them, wusses.

Emma, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, yeah - the 12th, I'm having my smart teef out. Three of them. There is no #4. Time off work is good; time off work with swollen mouth whining like baby is not good. Seeing ex reel around the toilet for almost a week like she was kicked in the metaphysical balls VERY not good.

David Raposa, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I once had braces put on my teeth to re-align my jaw. My top row of teeth was directly inline with my bottom row of teeth. This could apparently lead to problems later in life. The treatment didn't really work so i still have a weird jaw. That is about the only feature though, apart from a couple of chips.

Tom, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A dentist once told an old boyf that if he had his teeth /jaw realigned it would make him stronger (physically) and he was all for this, raving about with his new superaligned jaw he would be able to beat everyone up or something. The dentist must have been laffing all the way to the bank (as indeed they all are, the money grabbing wannabe doctor bastards).

Emma, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fairly good teeth, no orthodonture required even in America, no fillings needed for years but chipped one last year (oooh, expensive repair). My sister on the other hand had an underbite necessitating a break and re-set of her jaw, which was wired shut for the happiest six weeks of my life.

suzy, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Had a brace when younger but no fillings as yet. Gums seem to bleed most times I brush my teeth now. May go to the dentist soon but haven't been in a few years and am scared I'll actually have something to get done this time.

Ally C, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my gums have always bled a bit when I cleaned my teeth, even back in the days when I went to the dentist.

MarkH, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

lots of cavities from being a sugar lovin' kid, and now i have a gold cap - nice for that all impressive Goldie impression (and no i don't mean Goldie from Blue Peter, the impression for which does not involve gold teeth, but a life-size cut out of simon groom).

I was a rabid anti-dentite, but now they R grate. The dentist who did my cap claimed to be the dentist for the mother of a famous east end mobster.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Crappy, easily-decayed teeth, inherited from me mum - I also got her gappiness - but rather than Madonna-style, I have gaps between each of my four top front teeth, which I likes to think makes me look less weird. Hmm.

Mark C, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have been through retainers, bianators, braces, the works. The result was mighty fine in the end, hurrah. Not as good as my mom, though, who has the Beautiful Teeth That Sparkle. I have a couple of small fillings and my wisdom teeth were yanked a little over a year ago. To a lot of my friends' annoyance, it all healed rapidly and residual pain was gone in a couple of days. Hurrah!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

don't even get me started on that one....the back of one of my front teeth has crumbled out recently nd i got my friend to have a look t at (which cost me three cigarettes btw) and she said its fairly disgusting. also, im growing three more wisdom tooth nd i think id rather just keep them. on top of that, my mouth looks like a fucking treasure box cos i got four golden fillings.

how nice

julia, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they're in miraculous condition. but sorta green.

unknown or illegal user, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The thing that pisses me off is that I spent most of my childhood with an effin' headgear and everything and now they've all shifted. They're pretty straight, but it certainly doesn't look like I had braces. The bottom teeth are great, though. Too bad you never see them.

Nude Spock, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My front tooth is false. I lost the original one in an uhmmmm 'sporting' accident about the age of 14 (I fell over kicking a tennis ball, ouch, knocked the damn thing right out. My dad came to the school to help me home, I was a bit concussed. We had to look for the tooth in the playground. We found it, I had to carry it in my mouth on my way to the dentist, they stuck it back, they took the root out...then it was useless, so I had to have a false one!!)I have about 8 fillings. I had about 2 or 4 taken out when I had braces as a kid. I still have my wisdom teeth. I DO NOT LIKE GOING TO THE DENTIST!!!!

james, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My front teeth and a couple of others are crooked; it's only the front ones that bother me, and only because almost all of my friends have had braces for their very slightly crooked teeth. My gums are receding. My teeth are yellowish for no really good reason. I have never had a cavity or breakage.

Maria, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have great big sticky out front teeth with a great big gap, yet no dentist has said a word. All the other kids at school had braces. And they had perfect teeth to start with. I'm crying now. BOOOOOOOO MUMMMMMY. I wunt a tiny plastic bag of tiny chewy elastic bands like the other kids. WAAAAAAAAAAHHHH.

Graham, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and on the right of my mouth, the ends of my vampire teeth have chipped off, and I have no idea when or how. Don't tell Buffy.

james, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have religiously avoided dentistry for some 6 years or so now. The combination of - having four pre-molars removed, two with inadequate anaesthetic, two years with braces (not that it shows - they all just moved back the moment it was taken off) and a filling the last time I saw one of these low-rent sociopaths (again with woefully inadequate anaesthetic) - has left me with a real distaste for people who mix drills and mouths.

Anyone who's read the 2000AD thing about the origins of Judge Death (lawks, showing teenage dorkery here) will know why I say ALL DENTISTS MUST DIE. THEY ARE EVIL. EXCEPT FOR GORGEOUSE FEMALE ONES WHO ARE CLEARLY MISLED UNLESS THEY TURN DOWN MY ADVANCES IN WHICH CASE THEY ARE EVIL AND LESBIANS OR SUMMAT.

ogden, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have nasty teeth and a slightly crooked jaw. For some reason it would've cost me lots of money to have a brace as a teenager when I would've got one for free (or for a small nominal charge or something) if I'd lived ten miles away. Hrm. But anyway, there are enough other things wrong with me that it doesn't bother me too much. Generally nobody can see anyway.

If I'm there on Saturday you'll probably all stare at my teeth and terrify me now. Argh.

Rebecca, Thursday, 6 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My front tooth is false. I lost the original one in an uhmmmm 'sporting' accident about the age of 14
Wow me too. Only at the age of 12 and both teeth. The rest of my teeth are all crooked and contain too many fillings. Nonetheless some people still say I have lurvely teeth. They of course needs an eye test. :-)

helen fordsdale, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My teeth are totally screwed. I was given the break and reset threat when I had an underbite but avoided the procedure by ceasing the habit of jutting out my lower jaw. The orthodontist was stunned I reversed my underbite myself. Still, I have fillings galore, and once told a dentist who threatened me with having dentures when I got older "Good, then I won't have to brush them!" My older brother insists this was very punk rock, as was the time I scrawled "Mom is poo" on my bedroom door in crayola.

bnw, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I need to have four fillings done before Xmas - thanks for reminding me!

And what the sneck happened to those reclining dentists chairs? Now you have to lie on a kind of padded bed which goes all the way back meaning you are *completely prone*. I don't like this at all.

Trevor, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Last time I went to the dentist was 15 years ago, just after traumatic pointless tooth extraction and stupidly time wasting orthodentistry. Dentist said I needed to have three fillings. I wanly and boyish asked why, I was in no pain. Dentist said to spare me pain later.

I chose the pain later option.

Pain still not come.

My teeth are shot to shit, a lot of crumbled enamel (mainly blames on the fixed brace glued to said teeth) and the fact that my sister stole most of my mums store of tooth making calcium. That said I have never had a toothache. They will fall apart soon though.

Emma's teeth are scary.

Pete, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why? I thought you were scared of my nails not my Unbreakable teeth.

Emma, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Your nails are scary because they are the first step in turning you into an artifical automoton robot ninja assassin.

You teeth are scary because they are as tough and as strong and as dinosaur.

No wonder Tom likes hanging out with you.

Pete, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Indeed the new crop of nail bars are attempting to turn the girls of London into a crack team of lethal ninja assassins. I could do someone a serious injury with these babies.

Emma, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three weeks pass...
My teeth are horrible and I'm only 18 yrs old. My front teeth are urrghh.. dusgusting...The thing is I haven't go to dentists for 5 years and I don't think I can go. That's the last thing I want to do I guess.

eln, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I spent years going to dentists and had so many teeth aching at once. The last time I went, I had 11 pulled in the same apointment with just general freezing... 4-6 inj. per tooth... yipes. Now, my teeth can sit in a cup and don't ache anymore. I only have two more now to go as my lowers are partial. That day is coming soon

Gale Deslongchamps, Tuesday, 1 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
I'm the type of person that doesn't like the doctor nor the dentist. I went to the dentist a long time ago and I had 4 teeth cut out. I needed to come back and get some filled in, but I never went back. I kept on eating candy after candy. Then finally, my back teeth just started chipping off one after another. Then my front 2 teeth has chipped off and is starting to rot and I'm really just wanting to be able to smile again and don't have to worry about anything.

Went to the dentist today. Annotation mine.

two years pass...

dental tech says i have to improve my flossing technique. halp!

i'm not a total dirtbag, but sometimes routine self-care stuff feels a lot harder to do than it actually is. my depressive tendencies --> a relative indifference to things that would benefit me in the long term, like having healthier teeth and gums.
