Anyone here know what is meant on the front page to our beloved host?

Not that I fear change, Id just rather know what it is before hand.

Okay, I'm confused. There's a link memorializing "George". But it's not George Harrison, it's Phil's dog. Hmmm. Well, it is his site and we're most of us hangers ons.

has anyone got a spare server we could host ILE on?

Ed, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm willing to contribute £££ towards the fun that I get out of IL*.

But the idea of authenticating users and all that will take a bit out of our annonymity fun, won't it?

They are only doing that for the automatic mail updates which bounce and clog up their bits'n'pieces. Which since very few of us ask for notification shouldn't be a big problem.

And you could continue as long as you set up a real e-mail account for the alias.

this may be heresy, but would a banner ad be so terrible?

fritz, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wonder if greenspun would "give us" his code for LUSENET since it's so outdated and obsolete and everything?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The code for the version we use (ie no branching threads) would be pretty straightforward to knock up as ASP/PHP/CGI/whatever pages running on Apache/IIS with a MySQL database. It's more a case of finding somewhere biggish to host it all that'd allow us to run a database and scripts.

RickyT, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did anyone else think Alix would be Phillip Greenspun's gay partner instead of a dog?

I would pay for ILE as well.

Samantha, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think you can already get the tcl source from somewhere on greenspun.com. But coding it isn't the issue, really, like RickyT said; this thing must use a hell of a lot of bandwidth, more than most free/cheap hosting companies would be happy with. So I'm not surprised he needs to find a way to make it pay for itself, though it is a shame.
