Selfridge christmas window displays: holy or unholy?

While on a somewhat eventful trek back from Waterloo (lawks, don't ask. but do, of course) I noticed this year's christmas display at Selfridge's is as holy as last year's, if not more-so.

Or am I reading too much subversion into the Westlife display? The fibre optics are rather natty, either way.

I thought last year's was polar bears in Xmassy poses? How is that holy?

I've met the guy who designed all that. He was also responsible for the pyrotechnics on Robbie Williams's last tour.

Haven't seen it to be honest, but what's the deal with the holy thing? Do Selfridges have any more of an obligation to emphasize the holy aspects of Christmas than any other store?

I remember seeing a TV programme some years ago when they had the Three Wise Men on camels and the guy who designed that was saying how much trouble they'd gone to in order to ensure that the camels chewed correctly (ie, sideways rather than up and down). This is apparently really difficult to animate.

Not, like, literally holy, in a religious way. Just kinda cool and stuff. :)

I saw it last night and the seasonal words spelled out in lights were very natty. Looked nice, kind of like how I expect Grahams room in his hall of residence to look.

You have been imagining Graham's room? That is strange and unnerving.

only once I saw the lights in the window, you saucy minx.

chris, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hang on, YOU are fantasising about Graham's room and I am the saucy minx? How does that work eh?

you cast filthy aspersions, mine were pure and electrical light based. ergo, you have filthy mind, it's no wonder people are scared of you ;-) /runs out of work, never to be seen again.

one month passes...
i think the window is kinda cool- it hasnt got any of the tacky normal xmassy stuff in it(fake snow or tinsil) Ron Arad designed it, a man who i think is quite clearly abit nuts in the head!!Good on him.
