I will be coming from Manchester (Smiths Symposium weekend) tomorrow to Dublin. I'd love to meet the Dublin ILXors during my brief stay. Sorry for the late notice...also my apologies in advance for not being very much of a drinker. Colin Coulter (one of the conference organizers) was very disappointed in me for that!

Melinda Mess-injure, Monday, 11 April 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

Excellent. Er, which one are you? Are you Mary again?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 11 April 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

Hi, I'm not Mary. Has Mary ever posted under a different name? The confusion is forgivable since I don't post very frequently. I always use "Melinda Mess-injure" and my e-mail address is real.

Ned mentioned me at the end of this thread on ilm.

I ran into someone at the conference who mentioned ilm during lunch. He doesn't post very much, either. I hesitate to name him in case he doesn't want to be named.

I corresponded briefly with Dirty Vicar and Pete. They're in Dublin, I hope!

Melinda Mess-injure, Monday, 11 April 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

I think Mary is creative in her choice of AIM screen name, which may have confused me. Also though I would not myself suggest that Mary would choose the email address mozho, I would also not drop dead of shock if she did so. She is, you know, playful.

Anyway, you are clearly your own person, and so we should arrange to meet your own person in person. Which day would you rather go drinking on? We have DV on tap, but would have to import Pete, probably at great expense.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 11 April 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

Mel's good people! :-) Have a good FAP y'all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 April 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Mel, are you the person who sent me a B&S bootleg once? Wasn't I meant to send you something back (he said shiftily)?

We should get Lara to come out too, so she can express an opinion on the Smiths thing.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

I am available for FAPPAGE on one or other of the two nights... one of which is tonight! mad.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

I made it to Dublin alive on the 66p (turned into £20 with taxes 'n' stuff) flight!

Tonight I'll meet a friend at the Front Lounge (off Parliment St., so he says) at 10 pm. Ummm...it's my fault this is not well planned.

How about ILX fappage on the 13th, then? Location suggestions, please!!

Yes, DV, I sent you the B&S boot! Don't worry about the sending back of boots. I think you only had boots on tape and I wanted digital format, so I said not to bother. No worries! I do want to meet Lara, so please uh do whatever to insure her appearance.

Import Pete at great expense? Where is located then?

Thanks for the biggup, Ned! : ) I am reminded of you because today I have seen a number of tall Irish fellows with long wavy brown hair. Some even wear specs. BUt none of them are so meticulously clean-shaven as you.

Melinda Mess-injure, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

I tell you, beards are a curse unto the nations.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

xpost - And all have sideburns.

I might drop by to say hello, it's on my way home. Is there a photo of you on one of those threads full of photos?

Pete lives in London. It's over that way. Unless there's two Petes. (Actually, there is, but I have no idea where the non-Baran one lives. I assume I'd remember if he made mention of him living in Dublin, but this may be an unwise assumption)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

OK, where are we going tomorrow night then Andrew?

eh, the Lord Edward? Mulligans? eh?

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

I dislike being photographed, so I'm afraid I can't recall any photo of myself on the 'net.

The only recent photo I have ever posted to a public board won't be very helpful (or maybe it will be!) as it's a shot of my arse in days of the week "I Have Forgiven Jebus" panties on the underwear thread.

Okay, I uploaded a copy of my passport photo. It's only 3.5 years old. But now I've gained a stone and cut my hair very short.

or click here.

I very briefly appeared on BBC 3 tv for the Smiffs symposium, so if you can be bothered to download a crappy quality vid of it, you'll see me about 2 minutes into this 7 min. wmv clip.

Melinda Mess-injure, Wednesday, 13 April 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

Please suggest some place for fappage before 19:00 since that will be the last time I check the board -- thanks very much!

Also, because the photo threads take forever to load, I don't know what any of you look like.

Melinda Mess-injure, Wednesday, 13 April 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if I have a photo to hand, but as I'm unlikely to be along early doors (= before 9.30) that probably won't matter.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

the people in that clip!

I just started watching it.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

I can't see it :(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

I saw a purple jumper, at the beginning.

but, my God, the guys they had in the studio, talking about it. music journalists?

awful and more.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

Sorry I've not been engaging with this FAP... I have been away from the internet due to WORK.

Basically, I can meet anywhere, but not till 9.00pm as I have to cook my beloved's dinner and do my homework. Melinda, do you know where anywhere is in Dublin? Maybe we could meet in the upstairs lounge of the Lord Edward pub, traditional default spot for FAPs.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

i've been walking around in Dublin all day, so i'm pretty sure i can find the Lord edward pub.

(My use of lower-case is not an affectation -- this keyboard's shift button doesn't seem to work some of the letters)

i've located the Lord edward pub on an internet map. i'll be there at 9-ish then! : )

So, DV, go cook your beloved (be careful not to scald her too much) a nice dinner and do your homework. that's a good lad!

re: the Music journalists on that beeb clip -- whatevah. Generally, music journos are the only ones i can look down my nose at as an academic and jaded pr0n sniffer -- they're the only people even more fatuous and parasitic than us lot combined!

the keynote speakers were wonderful. But some people (young women, mainly) found music journo John Harris to be too full of himself. i couldn't find the energy to get worked up over Harris. John who? was my response. i can't remember anything interesting that he said. But i did note that he had a very bad haircut.

Melinda Mess-injure, Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Melinda - I have e-mailed you my mobile number, JUST IN CASE.

I've also e-mailed Lara... she may join us when she gets out of Jack Dee.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

What's Lara doing in ... oh never mind.

Hello Melissa, I am the DV's beloved wot is being cooked. Sorry I will miss the FAP, but I have an ESSAY to do.

rener (rener), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

Hallo, DV's Beloved!

that's too bad about the essay. Good luck on it!

i will have to find out about this Jack Dee business later tonight.

okay, i'm off to make my way over to the Lord edward pub...

Melinda Mess-injure, Wednesday, 13 April 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

I just realised I called you Melissa instead of Melinda. Doh.

I should go home soon. Maybe via the Lord Edward, heh heh heh.

rener (rener), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

She were nice, innit?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

arrrr.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

Roxor!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Awww...meeting you lovely Dubliner ilxors did roxor!

My stay in Dublin was far too short; I must visit Dublin again soon and meet you all again! The Lord Edward upstairs lounge was perfect. In ranked order from "good time" had to "meh", Dublin is at the top:

1. Dublin (b/c of the ILX FAP, sweet times with a very cool friend, and the lively atmosphere of Dublin minus the ciggy smoke).

2. Cambridge (on pretty much a last minute whim, my London hostess and I blagged a train and got into a sold-out show - The Tears - on the press list thanks to my hostess, crashed with a fellow drop-out PhD student and had midnight tea in his swank college hall, and spent the night having girly slumber party talk with fellow Smiffs fan London Hostess who can quote back to me verbatim some obscure interview pithiness)

3. Amsterdam (cheap yummy food like mashed potatoes with kale and spinach, good bike riding in the park, quaint old streets and canal scenery, staying in an Xtian youth hostel right around the corner from the red light district -- couldn't stomach the sickly stink of skunk in all the coffee shops, though -- look forward to visiting in the summer again)

4. Manchester (great conference and fun times meeting up with various old friends in the town that spawned the Smiffs, also ate delicious food on Curry Mile every night for a week)

5. London (stayed with fellow Smiffs girly fan and ate at what she declared to be the best Indian restaurant in London -- I can't argue with that!)

6. Paris (was okay but met with some disappointments, one of which involved not meeting up with a friend because she had an emergency -- spent a sunny day at Pere Lachaise Cemetery where a typical French perv out with his wife and toddler child leered at my tits even though I was wearing two modest tops in layers, one of which went up to my neck)

It's the first chance I've been able to be on a computer and not have the meter ticking, as it were. I'm now in an English town that's famous for its bath salts. Tomorrow I fly back to L.A.
