jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

Drink plenty of water and if you're feeling tired, try cold peppermint teabags over shut eyes.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

We've done this thread at least once before.

Ice is the best thing. No foolin'.

happy fun ball (kenan), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

Having avidly watched Ten Years Younger for the last few weeks, I think I might actually go for the surgery if I had this problem, such is the amazingness of the transformation.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

I made a thread about this a long time ago, but my computer can't handle the search function.

Anyways, I ended up getting some Clinique eye cream to put on before bedtime. In the mornings, I put some Benefits concealer/cream on. Also, I've gotten into the routine of using face lotion every day and night. I think mine are looking a lot better.

Oh, yes - and drink water and avoid caffeine.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

get some sleep, yo.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

avoid caffeine and get one sleep?, well then it's BAGS FOR ME

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

ha, me too it seems.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

ah, one of my specialities. applying frozen spoons to the undereye area is good in emergency situations. water, as suzy counsels, is a good everyday thing and will help your skin in general. as far as creams go, lancome resolution d is AMAZING though it doesn't specificalyl combat puffiness. estee lauder makes one that claims to that, and their skincare products are usually very good.

i'm not sure how you feel about concealer, but yves st. laurent touche eclat is genius for those days when you see a freshly-dug corpse staring back at you from the mirror.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

"those days" = "my good days"!

teabag solutions plz

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

haha Lauren i tried my friends touche eclat once or twice but i felt like everyone was staring at my make up. maybe if i got used to wearing it i wouldnt mind so much. i'll try frozen spoons and mint teabags.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

teabag solutions plz = my BEST days

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

yeah, you need a really light hand with concealer even if you're a lady and thus expected to wear the stuff. i'd recommend getting an eye cream/gel and blending a tiny bit of t.e. in with it.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

beanbag intrusions

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

I second Touche Eclat - it's great stuff. The Boots No7 version of TE has also been seen to work very well on a friend of mine recently.

Eye cream: don't drag it across the skin, pat it in with your ring finger.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

the no.7 version is always sold out, so they must be doing something right.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

They've been handing out £5 off vouchers lately, so this may have prompted a rush.

Funny, I read the title as "teabag solutions" and already it's been referenced twice, including the first reply. Damn.

Hemorrhoid cream is supposed to really work well for this. !!!

Abbott, Friday, 28 September 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

Hemorrhoid cream also shrinks and takes the redness out of pimples or so I've been told.

ENBB, Friday, 28 September 2007 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

also shrinks needle marks. i read that in dear abby. seriously!

ENBB, i was actually thinking of buying that kiehls product but for some reason it's not available in the UK (everything else in the range seems to be). there are some reasonably cheap on ebay from the US, do you recommend? i LOVE the facial fuel range, the firming serum is amazing and when i have used the the moisturiser people have actually commented on how good my skin looks. it's so expensive over here though.

jed_, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

It's pretty good but you are right about it being expensive. Even here it us p steep. A friend of mine gave it to me and while I like it, I don't know if I would pay that much for it myself. It looks like boots do a comparable product that I assume is cheaper and might be worth trying out.

will eat pudding (ENBB), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 12:45 (fourteen years ago)

ah, the anti-fatigue eye stick? will definitely check that out. thanks.

preparation h

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

or really, anything with witch hazel

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

kind of sceptical about whether the prep H thing is wise. if it was a good thing to put that around your eye the beauty companies would have exploited that angle already making an close equivalent in a 20ml tube for $s.

jed_, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

x-posts - Yeah that one. It looks sort of similar.

will eat pudding (ENBB), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

x-post beauty companies do! A ton of "eye creams" have the same active ingredient

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:22 (fourteen years ago)

Well, as the historical one. Looks like prep h switched to phenylephrine, which would be slightly different as it's just a vasoconstrictor

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

what was the previous active ingredient, mh?

jed_, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:36 (fourteen years ago)

varies based on the product and area sold:

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

Preparation H made the area around my eyes so shiny that I just washed it off rather than continue my dark circles-reducing experiment.

smelly's wife (rustic italian flatbread), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 17:55 (fourteen years ago)

tbh sleeping more helps

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

Preparation H would help with bags but not circles as far as I understand it. Sleep does help circles in some instances but others are hereditary.

will eat pudding (ENBB), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 18:09 (fourteen years ago)

I was unaware there was a difference between bags and circles. This convo may be too sophisticate for me.

smelly's wife (rustic italian flatbread), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

sophisticated

smelly's wife (rustic italian flatbread), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

bags refers to swelling, circles is coloration

golgi, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

it's not swelling exactly it's a little pocket of fat.

jed_, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

lipo

golgi, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

a tiny lump around the eyelid on top or bottom?

i have these, i got conjuntivitis about 2/3 years ago and since then at some point i got a small bump under my right eye and other smaller swollen areas.

doc said it was blepharitis last time i was there, some arduous cleaning regime involving sterilised water and cotton wool was recommended, hard to find the time though really, plus like all these things no idea how i'd do it in work.

When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blepharitis

not sure about this diagnosis as same doc was wrong about what i actually went for, was a shit standard nhs locum type, but it's a possibility.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conjunctivitis also worth a look

When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

no that's something else i think? i mean your traditional eyebag is like a small pocket of fat although eyebag removal surgery is called Blepharoplasty so maybe we are talking variations of the same thing.

jed_, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

could be different...basically what i get is if i run my finger below my eye (and have had them on the eyelid above my eye too) i can feel a small bubble sort of.

When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 20:54 (fourteen years ago)

I was under the impression that the Preparation H thing was a joke (shrink your hemorrhoids=shrink the bags underneath your eyes) that got out of control.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 22:21 (fourteen years ago)

prep h contains witch hazel. witch hazel reduces swelling. people have swelling under the eyes. it's not that hilarious

golgi, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

Not all of them do--the medicated wipes have pretty much nothing but witch hazel. And I didn't think the joke was funny, either, but that's what I've been told.

Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 22:36 (fourteen years ago)

I have a rather interesting friend who had in his travel bag: prescription pharmaceuticals, multiple types of cologne, prep h for undereye use. Oddly he had no aspirin so it was useless when he had a headache.

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

if the 'swelling' is actually pockets of fat, can't help feeling that witch hazel ain't gonna do much good, or people would be rubbing it all over their cellulite (is cellulite still a thing?)

ledge, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

yeah if its fat you're going to have to lose fat by traditional means, you can't apply something to fat and remove it that way

golgi, Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:05 (fourteen years ago)

I believe you want the fat to be there, as loss of facial fat and muscle tone is what leads to sag and wrinkle, other than skin aging.

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:27 (fourteen years ago)

it doesn't sound like he does

golgi, Thursday, 22 September 2011 03:20 (fourteen years ago)

i had a prep h gel w/ witch hazel once (not the ointment; bought in desperate attempt to reduce eye bags the night before a job interview) and i don't know that it does much of anything but leave a film on yr face. it feels nice and cool but i don't know that there's any noticeable change in puffiness.

tehresa, Thursday, 22 September 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)

maybe i will try this kiehls stick. i think i had the eye alert and it was meh... but if ppl have experienced miracles w/ the stick, i could risk it for $18.

tehresa, Thursday, 22 September 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)

tza I can not imagine you having any below-eye noticeable issues ^_^

so i had sex with a piñata (mh), Thursday, 22 September 2011 05:06 (fourteen years ago)

OMG this makes Skinner's mom in Simpsons saying "I'll be right down, I'm just putting on my witchhazel" totally gross! I always thought she was putting it on her face.

Silent Hedgehogs (Trayce), Thursday, 22 September 2011 10:13 (fourteen years ago)

there's fat around the eye whether you are fat or thin. if you have eyebags the fat has moved down past the point where the arrow is in this diagram to form a little pocket under the eye. it's hereditary usually and not really anything to do with the general distribution of fat in the body.

I have an infamous queef post? (jed_), Thursday, 22 September 2011 13:10 (fourteen years ago)

yes but fat is not puffiness and can't be fixed via topical solutions or applications of cold spoons, etc

golgi, Thursday, 22 September 2011 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

puffiness refers to swelling

golgi, Thursday, 22 September 2011 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

yes i know but mine are pretty small in spite of how much i think about them! a tightening would have some effect in reducing the appearance of them.

btw you're kinda rude.

I found that Boots no 7 protect & perfect eyecream (you can get it at Target) works p good and is relatively inexpensive, as eyecreams go.
