iPod question - laptop failure

My laptop (with my iTunes folder on it) has died suddenly, leaving me with an full iPod but no back up of my MP3s.

This might be a dumb question, but is there any way of copying everything from my iPod (including Playlists) onto a new PC?

Luckily, I backed up the iTunes library files to a CD only a few weeks ago. Will that help?

Download iPod Agent, you should be able to transfer everything back from your iPod to your computer.

actually if you treat your ipod like an external drive you can copy anything and everything. just be sure that if you have itunes open you click "no" when itunes asks you if you want to associate the ipod with the new computer -- all your files will be erased before you've had a chance to transfer them.

Jody, that is not actually true. Files on the iPod yes, music copied using iTunes no.

iPod Agent, or any number of other similar software will do the trick (iPodRip I think is another, which happens to be installed on this laptop despite me never using it).

i tried ipod agent and it didn't work -- it only wanted to copy half my files. (ps- i didn't say anything about copying music using itunes.)

(i just said that if you have itunes open while your ipod is connected, it'll automatically ask you whether you want to replace the contents of your ipod with whatever is on your new computer.)

Lots of programs there, I'm sure one of them will work

if anapod explorer is anything like red chair's zen jukebox equivalent that i use, it will be exactly what you need and also be awesome.

warning, potentially really stupid question to follow:

if you were to copy all of your ipod files back to your laptop using one of these programs, would any of the quality be lost? this situation is concerning me a bit as i can't keep all my music on my laptop...

No, nio quality is lost.
