Seems like a few years ago, only Utz chips in the East had a black pepper flavor. Now that shit's everywhere.

It's the cool ranch of ought-five.

Better'n ranch, at least.

Like... in the 90's every beer came out with a RED beer.. So & So's Red.

No nobody really does the red anymore, except for Red Dog. I think Schlitz's Red Bull has probably been pushed off the market by the Austrians.

The ORIGINAL Red Bull.

i thought you meant actual black pepper, which seems to defy fashion i'd say.....

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

i sound like the geir of cooking right about now

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

No, there's actual black pepper on everything now. I bought some kind of fancy cheese at Beverages & More and it was covered in black pepper. The shit's blowing up, yo.

andy --, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

I thought white pepper was the hip one.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

Look at all the salt & pepper chips now.

andy --, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

White pepper is elegant, black pepper is hip.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

It is "in". Which is a Good Thing. It is after all far superior to the old fashioned brown pepper which used to accompany the salt in an old skool British cruet set.

AaronK (AaronK), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

does Lay's = Walker's? I sense logo similarity.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if Lay's & Walkers are corporate sisters, but they're basically the same - the "standard" potato chip, available EVERYWHERE.

andy --, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

lay's have ridges though right? i thought jay's were the standard potato chip.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

No, RRRRUffles have RRRRRidges.

andy ---, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

geir would never big up anything black.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

Tim's Cascade chips had a limited edition run of Ketchup flavored chips .. which isn't really ketchup but more this weird salty red-dyed grenadine powder flavor that's really delicious when you're in an xtreeeem junk food mood. But no more. Back to Canada I go in order to get my ketchup chip fix.

I wish the companies that do those "extreeeeeme" sodas would just fucking take on All Dressed chips already and just remarket them as "XTREEEEEEEEEEEEEME" potato chips!

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

I almost bought something just because it had black pepper in it a few days ago and I can't even remember what it was.

RS, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

(I'm serious too.)

RS, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

I tried the Dill Pickle Lays last week, they were just okay. They walked a little too close to the salt & vinegar variety.

andy --, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

Do they sell these anywhere but Aus?

Lime and black pepper chips!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

I've actually been making a bunch of black pepper foods in the past month. I wasn't consciously trying to do it, it just worked out that way. It's a good spice, I'm all for it become fashionable for a bit.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

You can pretty much any flavored chips you want if you go to the right places... I assume we're talking about major brand supermarket product, though?

I've seen Lime and Black Pepper before.

I think the only country that has truly its own flavor is Canada, and that's All Dressed.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

I put freshground pepper in everything I cook. I didnt realise it was suddenly fash.

Last night for eg i made jasmine rice and ate it with butter salt and pepper. Yum.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)
