Poor Sumatra. I guess deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

But according to India Daily, that's not the half of it. The headline is something on the alarmist side:

Recent Sumatra earthquakes precursor to probable mega Volcano in 2012 that can end human civilization

Grammar notwithstanding, it's not good news: "If Toba or along Toba the volcanic eruption take place, it can bring the human civilization to its knees. This has the potential 3000 cubic Kilometer of eruption. That can be so devastating that earth may experience a drop in temperature of 30degrees Fahrenheit for many years. It can actually larger than the one Toba experienced 74,000 years back."

Since the volcano awoke on May 2, it has continued erupting intermittently, blanketing the area in ash and forcing more than 4,000 people to flee.

The mingling of lightning and ash seen above may be a "dirty thunderstorm."

The little-understood storms may be sparked when rock fragments, ash, and ice particles in the plume collide to produce static charges—just as ice particles collide to create charge in regular thunderstorms.

Neon lights have different colors depending on the composition of the gas where the electric flash happens. This lightning isn't happening in regular air but in volcanic gases.
