I bet it was in a school assembly.

Didn't it accompany the Apple II launch? If so, I last heard it when I clicked on the thread that had a link to the mpeg of the Great unveiling. I dunno - 6 weeks ago?

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

The Now Show a week or two ago maybe? Some crap radio comedy anyway.

Wow, someone else apart from me listens to not-that-good-really Radio 4 comedy series!

Every time I run anywhere.

In my head, upon reading this thread title.

Yes caitlin, and as a result I now have a warped view of the world and think it's effectively run by Hugh Dennis, Marcus Brigstocke and Linda Smith :(

When chariots of fire came out I was 7 or 8 and was in a gifted school, there was a piano in the hallway and I remember little kids going up and playing this song during recess, stupid little smart kids.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

I should say, I do rather like anything Marcus Brigstocke does. I'm biased, because there was one scene in We Are History filmed in my (former) local chippy - my flat was just over the road from it.

About three years ago - tripping at a Hogmanay party, one of my friends dropped a twister ice lolly down himself, twenty minutes later another friend exclaimed "Your jumper smells like Chariots of Fire"

We howled with laughter for hours and anyone humming the first few bars of the tune had us cracking up for months.

Quite how a lime flavoured ice lolly smelt like Chariot of Fire we will never know - no explanation was ever offered which made the whole thing all the better.

Didn't it accompany the Apple II launch?

The Macintosh launch. I saw that mpeg, too. Laughed my ass off, and was, I must admit, a little moved.

i caught the end of Mr. Mom on tv recently and i'm pretty sure that it's what's playing during the slowed-down obstacle course race at the company picnic where michael keaton takes a spill at the end and lets martin mull win and saves his marriage with teri garr and all that. could be wrong though.

the fact that my neighbors are serious distance runners inhibits me from watching this

gabbneb, Monday, 3 March 2008 04:19 (eighteen years ago)

Last year at work I had to recreate it (although change the melody slightly) for this.

Did anyone else ever think about having a cassette of this in the car, and when seeing joggers in the road, snap it in and drive alongside slowly while this was playing?

Me neither.

A few weekends back, while passing a horrid NON DOM RICH CUNT BASTARDS restaurant in Westminster which used to be a perfectly decent library, I heard the theme playing, accompanied by loud cheers; apparently someone in there had ordered £40K worth of booze or something.

Inside a room where patients were receiving chemotherapy. Pretty sick juxtaposition, if you ask me.

At the uni where I work it's played before every graduation ceremony along with other film score classics like the Star Wars march and that folky one from Lord of the Rings. I like to think of the graduands being inspired by the music to go out into the world and do great things.
