i just made one that was pretty quaffable.

milk (6-8 oz.)
half a smallish bag of sliced frozen peaches
green tea soy ice cream (a few heaping tablespoons)
clover honey (a few heaping tablespoons)
half a banana
a sugar-free oatmeal cookie, crumbled
a little splenda
a splash of vanilla extract

blend together, pour into tom collins glass, finish with dodgy whipped dessert topping

I was planning on making a protein smoothie this morning (a mix - you add milk and frozen fruit) but my bf said it wasn't a real breakfast. I bought a bunch of different flavors too. Mmm.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

if i ate a "real breakfast" every day i'd be 500 pounds!

jody the country girl doll (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

i like smoothies, but i've found them to fill me up less and have more calories than cereal or wholegrain toast.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

i used to drink bananaberry smoothies lots--bananas, yogurt, frozen berries if possible, milk, vanilla, bit of sweetener. yum.

hand blenders are great for such things...

I just had a caramel frapuccino. I am a terrible terrible person.

1 big-ish scoop of vanilla ice cream
1 bloomp of half and half
2 bloomps of kahlua
1/3 handful of coffee beans, ground into powder
2 peppermint leaves

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

Wait, that might need more ice cream. Maybe 2 scoops.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

I had an avocado smoothie once that rocked, dusted with wheat germ on top.

andy --, Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

I made Chambord smoothies over the weekend. Good and good for you

SMOOTHIES S/D

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 5 July 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)

I had a fantastic taro "shake" (no milk involved) at a mediocre Chinese vegetarian place in Albuquerque, so I just tried one locally yesterday and it was not quite as good, but still pretty good. I have a thing for taro anyway, though.

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 5 July 2007 22:18 (eighteen years ago)

(But apparently you can't eat raw taro, so if you want to try that at home, make sure you cook it first somehow.)

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 5 July 2007 22:19 (eighteen years ago)

awesome

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 5 July 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)

I just threw some blueberries and apple cider and strawberry yogurt in for a puree. It brought the yum.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 6 July 2007 00:53 (eighteen years ago)

When I got home last night I did:

Bannana
2 cup milk
2 tsp peanut butter
1 tsp honey
shake of cinnamon

Love in a glass, my friends. Love in a glass.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 7 July 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

aka running smoothie thread 2007

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 7 July 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

i like to make them out of maccha tea lately. maccha (sp?), plus vanilla, plus honey, plus soy or milk, plus ice.

SusanD, Saturday, 7 July 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

I will have to give that a try with some Mate tonight.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 7 July 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

I realize my smoothies are pretty boring at this point (though no less tasty), but I'm a smoothie n00b. I'm hoping to get more adventurous as the summer progresses.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 7 July 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

i had an awesome blueberry/banana/vanilla ice cream shake last night

Milkshake/Smoothie Suggestions

I'm big on using the acai smoothie packs.

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 8 July 2007 04:07 (eighteen years ago)

New one this morning based on tea suggestion above:

1 cup milk
1 cup mate tea
1 apple
1 bannana
handful of grapes

Makes a nice, frothy lattea kinda thing (with hints of fruit, obv). Yum.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 8 July 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

Put some fruit in your freezer. That way it's *crunchy* when you make a smoothie.

stevienixed, Sunday, 8 July 2007 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

But then you run the risk of ending up with fruit chunks in your smoothie if your blender isn't up to snuff.

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 8 July 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)

I made the mistake of putting my banannas in the too-cold fridge and they overripened/froze/ruined/whatevers. So I had to use them all today.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 8 July 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

I would love to have smoothies now and then but milk in that quantity upsets my stomach somethin' fierce. I guess I could buy lactose-free milk and make my own though. Maybe whence summer comes around again.

Trayce, Sunday, 8 July 2007 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

You could try soy or rice milk?

Michael F Gill, Monday, 9 July 2007 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

soy milk is grebt for this kinda thing, especially if you get like the vanilla flavored

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 9 July 2007 02:32 (eighteen years ago)

I could but I've never liked the taste of soy milk to be honest :|

Trayce, Monday, 9 July 2007 02:39 (eighteen years ago)

even the flavored?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 9 July 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

you know, i sort of hate smoothies as they masquerade bad eating habits as fruitful nutrition.

but i had to had a raspberry super vitamin C smoothie today. i had been dry heaving at 4am and had been really hammered by the sun the whole weekend. it was one of those strange moments where you can almost bodily detect a vitamin deficieny and your body is screaming at you to so something about it.

sanskrit, Monday, 9 July 2007 03:01 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks for that thread, btw, Michael F Gill

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 9 July 2007 03:08 (eighteen years ago)

The flavoured soymilk is GREBT! How could you dislike that?!? I like the berry flavoured ones,, then the BANANA FLAVOURED ones and finally (mixed with fruit) the vanilla soy milk. Yes, in that order. Num num.

you know, i sort of hate smoothies as they masquerade bad eating habits as fruitful nutrition.

You mean the ones that use ice cream for example? I know what you mean. Never tried those, tbh, so I don't know how much tastier they are.

nathalie, Monday, 9 July 2007 07:48 (eighteen years ago)

Soy tastes like chalk to me, bleugh! But in all honesty I'm not a big milk fan anyway. Which is weird cause I love cheese and I like cream.

Trayce, Monday, 9 July 2007 08:26 (eighteen years ago)

Pure soymilk, yeah, tastes a bit bland, but the fruit flavoured ones are really tasty.

nathalie, Monday, 9 July 2007 08:30 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...

started putting cardamom seeds in some of my smoothies....it makes them taste AMAZING.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 31 January 2010 20:40 (sixteen years ago)

https://www.worldcrunch.com/food-travel/a-german-butcher39s-grosse-idea-meat-smoothies

Peter Klassen, 55, has spent the last three years developing recipes and one million euros of investment in the project. In an interview with the Berlin-based newspaper Die Welt, Klassen explained that his greatest difficulty in getting his meat smoothies on the market hasn’t been a lack of public interest but rather finding a way to “make the meat so smooth that you can’t feel any morsels on your tongue anymore.” Ideally, the drinks’ contents should be “as fine as cocoa.”

But surely this is soup?

Not a soup I would eat. Smells like cat food and has a sharp chemical aftertaste.
