I love my mac, but i'm not sure it loves me yet: A question about pictures.

Wow, I have not been here in a long time. Hello! So, I just got a new iBook G4 and I am trying to figure out how to do things that I knew how to do on my old PC but don't know how to do now. Specifically, I want to take a picture from my Friendster profile and get it on my desktop so that I can upload it for something else, and I'm pretty sure I did this once and I'm pretty sure RJG walked me through it, but I have sent him two e-mails and he has not responded.
So, yeah, anybody know if/how I can do this? Thanks.

Okay, and thank you, happy fun ball. That worked right away, and I should maybe feel silly, but I don't. Thank you.

AIM, here I come.

welcome back kirsten!

Thank you!
Phil, are you still there? Now I am having trouble with this stupid AIM download! It turns out I am extraordinarily gifted at turning very simple things into NOT.

I don't know mac.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

What trouble are you having?

happy fun ball (kenan), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

don't you just click your one button down and hold it until a menu appears with an option to "save image" or something?

sorry, about the e-mail.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

If it's like most things, download the dmg file, double click on it to expand it into a "disk" file, open that up, then drag the application into your applications folder. Done.

happy fun ball (kenan), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

Well, the trouble, it seems, is that in addition to AIM 4.7, I managed to download some AIM 4.31232 thing that now refuses to be deleted, and I think I signed up for an iChat account, which I did not want.

Hi, Richard.

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's AOL alright. Does the file refuse to be deleted because it says it's in use?

happy fun ball (kenan), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

hi,

can you just do the "AIM express" thing, at aim.com?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

No, it just does absolutely nothing when I click on it. And the little AOL logo guy in the icon looks very seedy and blurry and I want him GONE.

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm stumped. Anyone?

happy fun ball (kenan), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Richard, I do have AIM now. My new screenname is kirstenmariek.

And yes, anyone? Please help me! I mean, this AOL icon doesn't seem to be hurting anything, really, but it's really bothering me. And I suppose if it were hurting something, I would certainly be the last to know, as I believe I've proven on this thread.

kirsten (kirsten), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

I have to go to bed, just now.

I will e-mail you, later!!

good luck.

This is a sign that you are healthy and whole. I do so wish AIM weren't so good.

kirsten - you could get a book called 'the switchers guide' by robert standerfer, i bought it when i switched from pc to an ibook and it taught me pretty much everything i needed to know.
