reading this thread like 'pink Lady apples' in the same way you might say 'lady lumps'
>_>
― dayo, Tuesday, 18 January 2011 23:51 (fourteen years ago)
you know there's actual p0rn on the interwebs right, dayo. you don't have to sex up the apple thread. I mean, I don't object, just trying to help a bro
― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 00:50 (fourteen years ago)
on one end u have pink ladies & honeycrisps, and on the other like Granny Smiths & Arkansas blacksso many apples in the apple tree. why pick just one?

crazy talk. love pink ladies and blood oranges. also, just bought a bunch of tiny little apples from washington (they're just a little bigger than maybe two cherries tied together, if they're even that big).
― Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:03 (fourteen years ago)
Oh man I revived an apple thread like two weeks ago to talk about how I eat a Pink Lady apple every day, and how I prefer them to honerycrisp! I only ate one honeycrisp tho...I really liked it, but I just wished it was a Pink Lady. I should gave them a second chance.
― Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:18 (fourteen years ago)
I bought honeycrisps earlier this week.
― =(^ • ‿‿ • ^)= (corey), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:20 (fourteen years ago)
honeycrisp has a great texture but was not as flavorful as my standby steady PL!
― Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:21 (fourteen years ago)
sometimes i do think i'm going to pass out when i eat a pink lady apple
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:25 (fourteen years ago)
the are just so nice
Yes. Eating one of these during lunch is usually the highlight of my work day.
― Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:28 (fourteen years ago)
they're so strong and not-mushypartly why i like them so much
honeycrisps are generally juicier, but more expensive out of season and kinda hit and miss wrt quality
pink ladies are almost always good ime
― ergonomically chromium plated fish slice (La Lechera), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:29 (fourteen years ago)

― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:32 (fourteen years ago)
they're good! apparently they get sweeter when refrigerated.
― Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:33 (fourteen years ago)
yes we always keep our apples in the fridge -- there is really nothing like a cold crisp apple
nothing.
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 01:59 (fourteen years ago)
I want to find out what the most consistently firm apple is - I really hate mushy apples
― dayo, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:42 (fourteen years ago)
my supermarket has giant fuji apples which are pretty consistently firm but not very flavorful. but it feels so nice when you take that first, big bite.
pink ladies are very firm iirc.
― Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:45 (fourteen years ago)
wait, that sounds naughty.
― Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:46 (fourteen years ago)

― Z-Ro Price (m bison), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:47 (fourteen years ago)
granny smiths are often firm in my opinion
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:47 (fourteen years ago)
granny smiths are best when sliced thinly & added to a salad, or served with similarly configured slices of good, sharp cheddar cheese.
― Blazes Boyband (Pillbox), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:51 (fourteen years ago)
i used pink ladies in a spinich salad last week, to surprisingly great results
― Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:52 (fourteen years ago)
thinly sliced granny smiths and cheese is one of the best snacks
i put salt on my apples sometimes, it's like a sour patch kid
― i like lucy (surm), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:57 (fourteen years ago)
granny smiths too tart imo
― Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 19 January 2011 02:58 (fourteen years ago)
Best sandwich I ever had was a Dijon, roast turkey breast, granny smith apple and cheddar....damn I still dream about.
Don't much like Grannies for snacking though, I always get stuck with the tart ones that make your face suck in.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:03 (fourteen years ago)
Actually I would like to report that I recently had an organic "Jazz" apple (from Washington state iirc) and it was Pink Ladyesque (v firm & crispy, sweet/tangy), but cheaper. ($1.49/lb) I got them at lol wholefoods.

― Z-Ro Price (m bison), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 03:23 (fourteen years ago)
2nd the jazz apple. small, but sweet, crunch and tart enough to have some character. they often come in boxes for some reason, like zipper fruit @ christmastime.
cameo can be good.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 05:00 (fourteen years ago)
What is zipper fruit pls?
― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 05:41 (fourteen years ago)
it's like a mandarin orange type fruit where the protective skin slips easily from the flesh beneath. clementine, tangelo, etc.
― normal_fantasy-unicorns (contenderizer), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 05:44 (fourteen years ago)
I have never heard them called that, I like it!
― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 05:46 (fourteen years ago)
I heard this morning on the radio (npr lol) that pink lady apples have been affected by the recent infestation of stink bugs in the SE (US)
Then I ate a pink lady apple and it had a terrible TERRIBLE aftertaste/bitterness.
Could disgusting stinkbugs be to blame?
― deez m'uts (La Lechera), Tuesday, 26 April 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)
probably more because it has been in cold storage for months
― buzza, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 19:49 (fourteen years ago)
yeah it tasted like shit tbh but there were also some gross brown spots on it that i haven't seen on other applesi am so ready for stone fruit season
― deez m'uts (La Lechera), Tuesday, 26 April 2011 19:53 (fourteen years ago)
yeah my market usually has awesome WA pink lady apples, but they haven't been so great
goddamn stink bugs
― VegemiteGrrl, Tuesday, 26 April 2011 19:55 (fourteen years ago)
California stone fruit crops will likely get off to a slightly late start, but growers are expecting good quality and an empty pipeline.
A warm, sunny April could help negate some of the effects of a cold, wet end to winter and beginning to spring, said Atomic Torosian, partner in Crown Jewels Produce LLC, Fresno, Calif.
“There were problems early on the nectarines and white-flesh (peaches),” Torosian said. “It remains to be seen how the early varieties set, but with that said, we’re looking at a good crop.”
Official peach, nectarine, plum and pluot volume projections for California hadn’t been made as of April 5, but Torosian said early reports suggested supplies could be down from last season.
And that may not be a bad thing.
“The southeast has a big peach crop, so it could be good,” he said.
Michael Reimer, sales manager for Brandt Farms Inc., Reedley, Calif., said the company expects to begin shipping peaches May 7, with nectarines following five to seven days later and plums the fourth week of May.
Fruit was running about 8 to 10 days later than normal, but could catch up as May approaches, Reimer said.
