Woo-hoo! Now I've been layed off!

Anyone who remembers previous threads where I discussed my job knows this is a mixed blessing.

The reason I'm starting a thread is because I want some advice about this "bonus" incentive program that I was supposed to be getting when I started work here. Basically they take my billable hours subtract my wage and expenses and pay me a percentage of that. They told me I could expect 2-5k annually. In nearly 2 years I have received nothing. Business has been quite slow (hence the main reason for my termination). But there have been busy periods where I was expecting to get something but did not. Having sort of a fear of confrontation I've never said anything. So what I figure I should do is ask the owner if I'm owed anything. When she says "no", which I'm sure she will, I think I should ask to see the numbers. I'm not sure what might happen after that, or what avenues would be open to me in order to get anything that's owed to me (or more)!

I have the bonus program in writing so they can't deny ever including me in it. it's actually the only document they sent me before I started! NO CLIENT AGREEMENT - which, as I understand things, means i am free to offer my freelance skills to any client I feel like woo-ing away!

Should drinks at Sneaky Dee's be in order?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 14 April 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

Did you get Sundar's email? If you can make it we can drink then. Otherwise, yes.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 14 April 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Yes yes then is good. I may or may not make it to The Creeping Nobodies tonight then. With taxes and my first ever air conditioner purchase I really should remember that for all intents and purposes broke for the next little while until soccer season starts up.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 14 April 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

Erm.. did you sign a contract or something???

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 14 April 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

I get paid to get really bad tan lines, take abuse from 22 grown men acting like little babies and to wear black.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 14 April 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Sounds a lot like what I've been doing the last 2 years.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 14 April 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 14 April 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

There's a lot of this going around, isn't there?

My condolences, it is the sUX0r.

Adherents of the Repeated Kate (kate), Friday, 15 April 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

Thank you. My condolences to you aswell.
This is for the better tho i think. I have 2 weeks left now and i kicked things off by strolling into work almost 2 hours late, still drunk, wearing a shirt that has "Dick" printed across it while they were meeting a client!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

bravo! commiserations too. chances are they'd find it cheaper to pay you what they owe you than have to cope with you suing them.

beanz (beanz), Friday, 15 April 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

A normal person might. I'm dealing the the most stubborn asshole in Ontario here. He's already been to court over several thing since I started here!
