I didn't see the movie Palindromes, but I read that it begins with Dawn Wiener's funeral. (She killed herself.) A moment of silence, please. This is SO WRONG. DAWN WIENER WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO DIE.

Well, according to Solondz at the Q+A at MoMA, it's all Heather Matarazzo's fault - he begged her over and over to reprise the role, and she absolutely refused. But he still wanted to revisit the character and keep the new movie in his "universe," so that was what he did. Dawn Weiner's brother is a key character in Palidromes in her place.

I remember seeing him on Letterman once and the audience was just laughing at him, even though he wasn't saying anything funny, just talking about the movie, but he was such a weird-ass dork that people just laughed at him. The same thing happened when Harmony Korine was on but that's because it was on 4/20 and he was stoned out of his skull.

This was the least annoying movie from Solondz I've yet seen. It's also pretty much the tamest. But I wouldn't really hesitate calling it his strongest, either.

I liked this movie fine, but it tries too hard to offend. I did dig the use of multiple actresses as the same character, found that more engaging than the actual plot.
